Ok I bought my 2004 Rx8 -6 sp Shrinka edition in Feb 2005 for 19500 with 10K miles. That was the number one issue I got one heck of a deal. Secondly I liked the look interior and how it handled.

The car is abit sluggish in the higher gears but if ya downshift it performs good. I have read other posts here about oil problems ?????? huh A ROTARY uses oil that is normal so that ends that issue . The gas mileage is ok I get 17 to 18 MPG good for me and I drive a little bit fast. I am happy with the car the only issue I have had is the flooding isuue but upgraded plugs and a high torque starter / & bigger cranking battery solved that.

I think for the price it is a good car. So far I have no issues, show me a car for that price with all I got, you can't

mid-life crisis

I had a rotary (not nearly as fast) in the 70's and loved it. The rotary keeps it zip as it gets older unlike a piston engine. After raising 3 kids and being very close to an empty nest, I have no need to haul a lot of people around and can't wait to get out of my SUV and into the RX8 - my mid-life cure. It is a very nice little zippy car that can take a couple of passengers and my 3 year old grandson who loves anything with an engine will love it too! My GT 6MT is on order - supposed to be built this week.

Yeah i hope people read this, wether they have a RX-8 or deciding to get one. I just think people assume when they are about to purchase a 8 , there getting a Corvette Z-06.And there not..... Then a few months later to a year, they wish they never bought the 8, because the 8 isn't at fast as the "other" sports cars on the road. Mazda never intended it to be a strait line performer.....its performance is focused on "all around attributes and performance". Ford and GM focus on strait line performance, that is why they make Mustangs Gt/Mach 1/SVT and Camaro'sSS /Firebirds WS6.

I wanted people who own this car just to sit back and reflect why did i just drop 27k-35k dollars on this car again? Instead of complaining, you would think before purchase they would have done there homework or tested the 8 many times to reasure themselves, is this the car i want or don't want?

Because if your looking for that neck snapping, burning the rubber off the rim performance, the 8 isn't it.......

Well its common assumption, bigger displacement, the faster the vehicle will travel,mostly people who live, eat and breath numbers like seeing when buyinga vehicle, for example: 8.0 Ltr 400HP, makes people feel better about themselves for some strange reason knowing they have a 8.0 ltr.......

People see 1.3 liters and they kind of look like this , yet little do they know that 1.3 could be just as potent as the 8. Ltr.

It's a common assumption for piston engines, yes. The Rx-8 doesn't have a piston engine.

I just think people see the hp number, and expect more torque.

I bought mine because I wanted a sports car that could still take me and my girlfriend and a LOT of luggage on a serious road trip. The rotary engine, and the fact that I was favorably inclined towards Mazda, having had good experience with them before, only sweetened the deal.

My reasons:

- I wanted a sporty second car for three season driving with a focus primarily on handling but still quick
- I didn't want to spend the $$'s for a Porsche or comparable
- I wanted something unique, a car you dont' see every day (like Mustangs). I rarely see other RX8's in Buffalo
- I wanted to be able to drive my sports car and still be able to pick up my daughters and their friends (rules out the two seaters or I'd get a Vette)
- I wanted to have enough room to take a road trip

The RX8 does it all for a great price when you consider what you get. Far more unique than anything available under $50k and to me it is more than competitive on performance with any sports car in every aspect except raw straight ahead power (and that's not all that important to me).

Would I love to have a bit more torque off the line - yes - but not that much of a compromise considering everything else.

I lubs me teh rotary action. I've owned an '85 Rx7 GSL, and the holy grail of NA RX7s: a 1990 GTUs (I still miss that car), one of only 100 made. I felt like a war criminal for crashing it. I wanted a 3rd gen rx7 but just couldn't afford it. When the 8 came out, there was no question in my mind I had to have one. When the car I was driving after the GTUs (94 Probe GT) starting to cost more than it was worth, I had my chance.
I knew it wasn't the fastest thing out there, but by Bob it's the sexiest car on the road. People stop and stare, children literally have run alongside as I drove by. It turns heads. It drives great, and it's a rotary. What more could you want ? Well ok, a few things like better gas mileage, and not having a blind spot the size of the USS Missouri, but in the long run, that stuff pales in comparison to how much I love the car. My company recently had a contest, one of the prizes was limo service to & from work for a month. AS I said to my cube mate, "I don't want to win that, I have a sports car. I LIKE driving to work."

I had an RX-2, RX-4, and 3 RX-7s, and really liked the rotary engine. It had been about 14 years since I had one, so I was excited about getting the RX-8. I was somewhat disappointed that more progress had not been made with fuel mileage, heat, flooding, etc. But, I did thoroughly enjoy the 14 months that I had it. And, I would seriously consider getting the next RX-7, or whatever they might call it.

1. engine .. but i was just dreaming about it then .. i never cared for high torque burnout cars .. having grown up around rpm loving alfa romeos and enojying every second of my si's 8k redline

though i knew this is gonna be a love/hate relationship and 4 days into I already see it ..

twitchy,loses end but stays right on track
eats loads of gas but goes bzzooom, bzzzooooooom, bzzzooooommmm (i can do this all day)
were is all my cargo space (i had 6 grocery bags in one hand nad couldnt load theminto the trunk in one shot because of the small opening, had to divide in two) but looks hot
window is so high i can't comfortably rest my left elbow but if straighten my arm i feel like driving a sports car and what do you know .. now that i'm passing another car it needs no resting
the center arm rest is so comfortable to rest my right arm on but i really want it on top of the shifter off the center to run the gears up and down
the gears are so hard too go through but eh at least the short shifter looks cool
parents and (potentially) inlaws cant believe my immaturity in getting such an impractical ride but they dont realize the mental benefit of my forgetting and forgiving all the bs they put me through while im in it
new car payments, oil cost, premium gas, $1000 winter tires (hope it will be less) but if didn't jump on this now i could never had own such a superb sweet hot ride
