It is well documented that rotaries rarely last longer than 40k miles. Just look here for evidence. Posts about motors going is a daily occurance. Never understood the hype about RX8s myself.

Mazda makes a good car or I would not waste my time with it..... The car will not fall apart at 100k. These things last a long time if well taken care of. The 84 Rx7 I sold drove like brand new after 25 years and so will well cared for Rx8. If you keep corrosion off and no crash they will outlast your lifespan. Vehicles for sale with low miles are more a trap then high miles. High mile RX8's normally have had engine replaced. Low miles gonna loose compression after the warranty go out.

If you are worried because you know something wasn't cared for properly, then of course you should be worried.
if everything has been cared for properly then you should have no worries. Yes, things do happen unexpectedly, but it doesn't mean you should be worrying about anomalies.
