What about RX8 vs 350z?

Wheels, not rims!!

That track has good traction. The guy that spun my Z is an experienced autocrosser, but with Miata's. He had no problem giving that much throttle, on the same track, in his MX-5. ( but we were not in his MX-5 )
Which was the point of my post. If you don't expect/respect the power, it will bite you.
As for the poor driving comment; Yes, driving a 300hp car the same as a 166hp car is a bad idea. ( I tried to warn him. )

Even my 150HP 240SX wants to spin out when there isn't enough traction in the rear. Just tap the front down and the kick in the clutch.
Controlling the power is more important than applying it.

sorry but when they're in almost the same price range ( not so much anymore ) and targeting close to the same general audience... you can.
Just because the two have some different characteristics does not mean they dont some of the same. Ever heard of the two circle graph with the differences and sames graphed? durrr

I test drove both the z and the 8 before purchashing. I took the skip barber driving class with the 8. Then went to a track event with a friend that had the Z.
The two things that the Z had over the 8 was the power and higher cost. (same options)
I went with the 8 and super charged it. I have been at the track against Zs. In both straight line and twisties. The Zs were not stock they also were modded.
Only the Zs that had Turbo setups with high boost were dominating the straight line. The ones with low boost similar to mine (6psi) we would take turns winning.
Twisties the 8 dominated.

I bought my Z for driving. Period. Not running errands. Not hauling people around.
Driving.
With only 2 seats, the Z isn't good for much else, and I planned it that way.
Our Magnum RT has 71k+ miles on it and it's less than three years old. My Z is just over 3yrs old and has 31k. (Plan has worked thus far) Most of its miles have come from autocross tracks (one 1/8 mile and one 1/4 mile drag strip) or getaway road-trips for the wife and me. -Including three trips to the tail of the dragon.
I'm sure there are a lot of people who buy the Z for other reasons, but it's an impractical car so the list of possible reasons for buying is shorter than other more useful vehicles.
I work in Naples FL and see many exotics with drivers that look like they would go into cardiac arrest if they tried to explore their cars' limits. I would be willing to bet that very few of the Ferrari owners in SW FL track their cars, but that doesn't make a Ferrari any less of a driver's car.

Wouldn't call it comfortable but it does have that feature over the Z.

But, in stock trim, I wouldn't consider the 03-06 Z's drag strip ringers either. (The 07's+ seem a good bit stronger)
When it comes to racing, (again, in stock trim) I have always considered the Z "good" at everything and "great" at nothing. Well, it is a great value.
The RX-8 has a different set of trade offs than the Z. I came to this board after driving one on an autocross track. I fully understand why drivers like the RX-8. But other cars offer things that driving enthusiasts want too Z, S2K etc.
It's just a matter of finding what a particular driver wants most. (none of our cars are, or should, be for everyone)
