Well, it's been two weeks and everyone was wrong!

Everyone I work with that is.

I've gotten so much crap for trading my '03 Cobra in on an RX-8. I heard everything from: "You're gonna miss that power" and "Why a Mazda?" to "RX-8's are girls cars" and "they're too small".

Well, I'll trade the power for a car that actually handles and corners like a sports car should and one that has a lot more options than my Cobra did. I'm 6'2" and I fit in it just fine. As much room as my Cobra, just sit lower. I really don't understand where the girl comment fits in because I've seen as many guys checking it out as girls and more dudes have asked about it than women have.

I've already added clear corners, stealth bulbs all the way around, matching body color strakes, tint, 3M HID headlight protection film, and other minor stuff.

Still trying to decide on an exhaust. I have to find one that doesn't sound like the typical modded-out coffee can Honda Civic Bi-plane exhaust sound.

So far, I LOVE THIS CAR!

Girl car? I think they mean miata's ... ha ha. Kidding ... miata's rock.

Well congrats on the purchase. I think that people who are set on their cars will defend it to the death ... just like if anybody here decided to trade the 8 for something else .. we'll all jump on the guy saying .. "the 8 has the best cornering", "you're going to miss the rotary/revs", etc

I think all the exhausts available for the 8 are all pretty good interms of sound. Personally my fav is the RB exhaust. VROOM!

Don't miss the new Mazdaspeed exhaust being talked about in the Vendor forums. There is also going to be a new Mazdaspeed CAI too. Their prices also look to be the lowest on the market for these parts.

Yeah, the "girl's car" comments are definitely aimed at the Miata. I got alot of "jabs" from friends when I had my Miata. I think SUVs are far more "feminine" than anything else out there. Just look at the ratio of male/female drivers in Expolorers, Trailblazers, and the like. Throw THAT in their face next time they say something.

And it's good to hear you're honestly enjoying the car. Mazdas in general are a totally different animal... They don't seem to follow the same "formula" other car manufacturers take. Just about anyone you can get in the driver's seat for a test drive will end up loving these cars.

Many people are auotmotively immature - they can't get a handle on the concept 'faster (in a straight line) does NOT mean 'more fun to drive'.

There are more "haters" than automotive enthusiasts...remember that.

I just laugh at people like that who are so "sports car" short sighted. I'm not saying everyone will love our 8 but any self respecting "car guy" that dismisses the RX8 completely is nothing but a car-fool in my opinion.

Right - said another way, "I don't care if you don't like my car, just 'not-like it' for the right reasons."

I'll probably buy the NEW Mazdaspeed exhaust once the weather turns good again in spring. Waiting to hear feedback from people that have bought it. If not, sounds like the RB may be my 2nd choice. Jury is still out on CAI's. Have no idea which one to buy there.

I will have to be honest. Since we work for Ford, I felt kinda bad buying the Mazda. But since Mazda is part of the Ford family, it made it easier. I would have never bought any other Japanese car other than the Mazda though.

I plan on buying a new Cobra in late 2007 or so and I was wanting something different until then, but I like this car enough that I'm not sure I'll want to part with it.

Only in Kansas City can somebody call the RX-8 a "girl car". I've lived in Missouri so I know what you mean. Unless you drive a big truck that makes a LOT of noise you are a *****.

It doesnt make a lot of sense but that's how things are straightjacketed there unfortunately.

I agree with you completly... I've had Z28's and Firebirds and to be honest, I've only had the 8 for 3 days, and i'd take it over either in a heart beat

Well, if anyone gives you crap about it, just explain that you don't need a huge truck to compensate for "physical inadequacies" like some guys do. :p

I have gotten crap from a couple of mechanics at work when I talk about the mods I've done or planning to do. "Why don't you get a real car like a Trans Am or a Mustang?"

Just not the same I tell 'em. Like comparing a Ralley car to a dragster.

Nice to hear you proved em wrong Rempsonx8.

Even better that you are happy with your decision.

Sounds like a good plan. I just sold my 03 Cobra about 2 months ago and I am in the market for an Rx-8. I drove a few of them, just been debating getting one now, or waiting till the nicer weather in the springtime.

It is good to hear coming from the Cobra you are real happy with the 8.
