Weirdest thing happened today after VIN check

A friend of mine who works at a Hyundai dealership called me the other day to tell me they got some looser who traded in a 2006 Subaru Impreza WRX STi in practically mint condition for a Tiburon (I Know!!) and wanted to know if I wanted to join in a test drive of the newly accuried 300-bhp AWD fun machine. Of course I did.

And while I was at the dealership, I had my friend run a VIN check on my car to see what my resale value was, just for ***** and grins. And I couldn't believe what happened- my 2005 Titanium popped up as a Shinka! How is this even remotely possible? I have the base cloth interoir, the have Ti paint (in EVERY nook and cranny, it wasn't resprayed), and my build date is 07/04. This is beyond bizzare.

Any ideas?? A MNAO error in the computers to my favor?

Neat! Now got get the B-pillar stickers that say Shinka!

Also, I'd take a Tiburon over an STi anyday. I'm not a fan of the Sti at all, and the Tibby looks better anyway.

That’s really odd I’ve never herd of anything like that.
I would rather have a Ford Tempo than a Tiburon.

LOL

I take STi over that PoS Hyundai ANYDAY

Forget about performance, STi will stomp that PoS like nothing.

and the looks .... its very agressive. will attract alot of cops (!!!!), but other than that. I think its good.

chicken: that's weird! You sure he didn't punch in the wrong Vin #?
Have you registered on Mazda's website? If you do, it'll tell you exactly what kind of car you have (After you enter Vin). Curious to see what mazda's website says...

Was it a V6 Tib? I think it would have more potential for power and torque than the 4 cylinder in the STi. Maybe that's all the owner wanted with smaller payments.

Lucky you it's a shinka? If you can fool someone into thinking it is.

The 'potential' for more power than the STI? Wha? It'd need $5000 worth of work to get close to the STI's power, stock.

putting in 5000 dollars or more into a tibruon gt and you still wouldnt be at the base price of an sti. hell, putting in 10 grand and you still woudln't be at the base price of an sti. Granted the tiburons FWD pos.

That isn't the weirdest thing that could have happened... I thought you were gonna say something like, a giant purple monkey showed up and juggled rabbits. That would have been weird.

I had a similar thing happen to me. I bought my 8 used. I was having a problem entering my VIN into the owners section of Mazda's web site so I called a rep for assistance. He got it in for me and explained that I have a base model. I don't have a base model though. Mine is a GT. I've leather, bose, seat warmers, the whole nine yards (except navi and 6 disk). Weird

I think even after 10 grand of *investment* that PoS still wouldnt be able to Beat a Stock STi

No I haven't regiestered on Mazda's website- I'll try that.

We triple checked the VIN- got it from three different places and entered it in the computer 4 different time on 2 different computers.

never meant to stir up a wasp nest.

I have no idea how much $$$ you would need to beat beat a STi. Nor do I know how much an STi or Tib cost.

All i do know is that V6>4 cylinder for potential. GENERALLY Speaking.

Not so true.

You have to learn more about engines before you throw that *Generally speaking* out.

This may be a wide spread issue as just a few threads down a member is looking to buy a "shinka" from a dealer but this "shinka" does not have any of the signature items that should come with that package.
