I'm having a very strange issue with my car alarm. When I try to start the car, the alarm goes off and turns off randomly after a while. I've done searches but most of the alarm issues seem to be caused by some sort of sensitivity issue, or dead batteries. My car is at the dealership right now and they tell me they don't know how to shut the alarm off. Apparently the factory alarm is from an aftermarket company, or so they claim. Does anyone know what could be wrong, or does anyone know how to shut off the alarm? I have a 2004 rx8 sport model... anyone know the manufacturing compnay of the alarm?

 

Allow me to use my powers of clairvoyance and look at the alarm box mounted under your dash to tell you what name the sticker on it says.

oh wait. I'm not clairvoyant.

If it's Aftermarket, you just have to find the unit under the dash and see what brand it is, and there is no real way to troubleshoot without knowing the product you are working with.

I've been told it's aftermarket by the dealership, but the car is completely stock. I just got it from the dealership a while back and have never touched the alarm system. I don't think this dealer would lie to me, but he claims that the factory alarm is not from mazda. Is there no set alarm manufacturer for 2004 rx8s?

 

Mazda doesn't really have an alarm system for the car (although there is an OEM shock sensor)

The alarm was probably put in by the previous owner. You could try to get in touch with them. If the owner did it himself it could be anything.

If it was installed by a dealer, it is most likely a KARR security system. They seem to have a deal with ford, mazda and honda. I have one and they installed it when i bought the car. it's aftermarket, but they have alarm guys out twice a week to install them in new cars and it is covered by my warranty

 

thanks for all your help. i at least know now that my dealer's not trying to rip me off. probably gonna have to just kill the alarm, as it was kinda buggy in the first place.
