We all need to slow down sometimes!!

I happened across this story and was very upset by it. I am not trying to be the goodie goodie preacher beacause heaven knows I drive my RX8 VERY fast at times. But after reading this story we may ALL think twice about some of the silly stuff we do on the roadways.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1016342

I don't know if this gentlemen was part of our forum or not but I hope he and many others will learn a lesson.

Hope he has a long time in prison to think about what he has done. That is just stupid. Take chances with your own life if you want to, but leave everyone else out of it.

I'm curious, do they know for sure the driver of the RX-8 was street racing? Not that it makes a difference, any time you have a story like this it is unbelievably tragic. Earlier this week, a mother and her two sons were waiting to turn left down the street from where I work. A GMC Yukon Denali slammed into her Accord goin about 70. The mother and one kid died instantly, another kid was thrown from the car about 50 feet, and died later. The driver of the Yukon had a broken neck, and they guaged his BAC to be about 0.43. Legal limit in MI is 0.08, and they say at around 0.40 an average adult male is already in a coma. The Accord was almost completely destroyed, to the point of being unrecognizable. Kinda puts things in perspective...the family was going to dentist appointments...it's definitely made me re-evaluate how I drive.

i like how it mentions the other car it was supposedly racing in the headline/title, but in the body of the article, it isn't mentioned. that's some quality journalism right there.

and as for the accident, it is a tradgedy (even if this is old news [its new to me{too many math classes with all these brackets}]), and could have easily been avoided.

the passenger compartment of the 8 held up very well considering the damage to the front end. im an emergency responder and i deal with this kind of thing on a daily basis, and i have to say that the pics i see of wrecked 8's inspire a lot of confidence as far as the damage the passenger compartment suffers in high speed collisions.

Man you guys need to read that whole thread....

The poster CLEARLY states that his friend was behind the RX-8 when it happened and was dating the RX-8 driver. The RX-8 WAS street racing. The other car took off when the accident happened.

i was mearly commenting on the news articles that were posted, not the conversations in the thread. i don't consider posts in a forum journalism. Entries on a blog/info site, maybe, but not the posts in the forum.

This article resurfaced at a good time. If this guy was "street racing" it goes perfect with the thread about Florida new law against street racing. A few people thought the law was worthless but when you read stuff like this it all makes sense. street racing of anykind day or night... back road or main road is very childish.

I don't belive that any of the posted articles mention racing, and neither mention it in the Headlines. Unless I'm totally missing it.

One is titled:

"Driver killed by airborne car on Delaware Ave."

and the other:
"Driver Charged with Murder"

Both articles refer to it as nothing more than "an accident" and neither mention anything about racing.

i'm glad we have a great number of level-headed people on this board. street racing is retarded. take it to a track. just one of the many reasons this rx8club is GREAT

AH! you're right. the racing bit was the thread title, not the article headlines. ok, that makes more sense.

ok, i retract my statement about quality journalism.

maybe, maybe not. but traction/stability control are worthless if there are no tires on the ground...but he very well might have had it turned off, and thats how he lost control.

i guess on the other hand, its good to know we can send our cars airborne and smash into other objects and walk away with little to no injuries. shitty way to find out though.
