Water on the passenger side?

I woke up this morning to find that the entire passenger side floorboard of my 8 was soaked. There must have been about 2 gallons of water soaked in the floor mat and carpet. We had a very heavy rain in Charlotte last night and I suspected a leak. The sunroof was dry; the windshield was dry; the door frame and window was dry. I could not find where any water could have come in. I took it to Montgomery Mazda here in Charlotte and they went over it for 2 hours trying to figure out where the water came from. They finally gave up and told me to watch it and maybe they can figure it out later.

I am hoping that I am not the only person to have this problem. Any help your guys can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kevin

I had this same problem in another car (not an 8). Turned out one of the sunroof drains that runs along the frame of the car down to the tire area was clogged causing it to overflow. This is supposedly a common problem with sunroofs on any car.

If the dealer couldn't figure it out take it to another dealer.

Any custom wiring done? For example, a power line from the battery to the cabin?

No custom wiring. I checked the firewall just in case it wasn't sealed.

Sunroof sounds like an interesting idea. I will have it checked out.

thanks

Could be a leak in your heater core which is located up under the dash. Taste the liquid and if it's sweet, it's coolant. Don't swallow it, however. Take it in for repair, hopefully under warranty.

Test this... My 8 had issue with the front windshield drains (Cowl). The water will then go into your A/C blower and onto the floor. This is on the passenger side up and under glove box. To confirm turn on your AC and see if you hear motor boat sound... Dealer fixed it for free. It was small piece of plastic from the factory in it.

My car had the drain for the A/C evaporator plug up...and it drowned my passenger floor area.

The drain is on the firewall...center above the tranny/engine interface

Looks like a tube with pinched " duck lips"

When I opened it up...it drained about a quart of water out on the floor of the garage......plus the same amount from the passenger footwell

As NM0cho said......turn on the blower and the fan will sound funny

Carwash or dump a lot of water on it from the garden hose. Hope you find it. Also hope the wet interior dried without a musty smell.

Hope it's not a heater core.

A long extension cord and a hair dryer can help this one - until its fixed use a car cover!

Shop Vac works better than blow dryer. Car cover is a good idea though

check in the where the passenger side wiper extends to. If there is a missing or crack black piece then the water runs straight down in your car. lol, idk it worked for my gf mazda6.

The weatherstripping has been replaced, ac drain cleaned, sunroof drains diverted, andd the windshield replaced. Any other suggestions?

My car has been in and out of the dealer. They finally found out what the problem was. They said it was a defective drain plug. I've had the car back for a month now and no leaks yet.

I had this happen in a Jeep I had and it was the cowl drain. SO +1 on checking the cowl, A/C drain.
