Water Injection system - Prolong engine

I was talking to a Mazda service tech who seemed pretty knowledgeable. He said the engine failure issue is directly related to carbon build up that would seize the apex seal causing a lose of compression. Based on all I know this makes sense for the following reasons.

- Most engines die from lose of power and no start, compression issues.
- RX-8 engines last longer in humid climates where the moister in the air helps clean out the carbon.
- Mazda recommended a de-carboning procedure to help prolong your engine.

Based on this a water injection system seems like a good better to prolong your engine. Water injection is known to, among other tings, keep your engines combustion chamber clean of carbon build up. The steam breaks up the residue.

Can anyone confirm or dispel this thought?

Thanks in advance.

Could go either way. Unfortunately water injection engines are known for being horrible exhaust pollutants because the increase in water molecules extinguishes the spark and some of the flame to the combustion cycle. More often than not you end up purging unburned fuel into the exhaust system.

probably just need a mist injection system on the intake.

yes steam cleans out carbon but it has to be at really high temperatures and pressures so not possible in an engine ( they use this in high pressure boilers its called sootblowing). You also cant compress water so i dont know how that would go in the engine. It would have to be a super tiny amout of water in the form of mist like said above

You can try the RA adapter and use premix only in the tank. I know some people eliminate the OMP completely and just pour premix into the tank.

Carbon lock does contribute to some failures but it is not the main cause of the failures. Failure reasons have been discussed many times. Also on the renny you cannot remove the OMP completely unless you are running a stand alone engine management system.

most of people pour in a small mixture(4-6 ounces per tankful) of two cycle engine oil and upper cylinder lubricant (50:50 mixture). there was a big discussion about this but i'm too lazy to find the link

Water injection is well documented at reducing carbon in the combustion chamber and I have read many posts as to the cause of engine failure but realistically speaking there are only a handful of folks on this site who really have any real idea as to what is causing this engine failure. Distilling their knowledge down and looking at the facts I lean towards carbon buildup as a leading cause but not an exclusive cause.

I'm hoping to gather additional information from people who are more knowledgeable with real life experience with these subjects.
