Question Warranty Q

I have ordered the Mazda Speed flywheel and high performance clutch and cover from Japan. I am also thinking of going with the Racing Beat cold intake as well. However, I am wondering how far I can go with mods to my 8 and still not void the warranty. I have gotten a lot of contradictory info from my dealer over the last two years so I’m not sure how to proceed.
My dealer’s service manager told me that any Mazda or Mazda Speed part may be used without worry of voiding the warranty. Is this true,,, and if so does it extend to the Mazda Speed parts that Mazda Speed North America cant get and have to be ordered from Mazda Speed Japan? (ie; clutch and cover)
I would also like to know if Racing Beat parts are the same, under the warranty, as Mazda Speed parts? I have heard they are the same company? This again, is coming from a service tech at the dealer.
Regards,
Grey.

Welcome to the world of Mazda Service.

About the only thing I can say for sure is MazdaSpeed parts INSTALLED BY !!! Mazda will not void your warranty. Anything else you do depends on the mood of the service writer, moon phase, fighting with the wife you get the idea. People will mention the magnusson moss act which states that the installation of aftermarket parts can only void a warranty if the dealership can prove the part cause the problem. Problem with that if you get into a blame game with the dealer you will need a lawyer ($$$$) to enforce that act.

a. racing beat is not the same as mazdaspeed. they are seperate entities. racing beat does much work for mazda but is not part of it.

b mazdaspeed parts mostly are covered by your warrenty. its explained on the mazdaspeed website what isnt.

c. read up on the magnusson - moss act on the SEMA website.

what you do via aftermarket to your car may or may not void your warranty, depending on what you do, how its done, the mood of your service writer, your relationship with your service department, the time of month, what season it is, whether or not your post any of the stupid stuff you may do in your 8, etc

Most mazdaspeed parts are covered by the warranty if you have a mazda dealer install them, you'll have to check the mazdaspeed site to see which arent. If you install them yourself, they are only covered for one year.

MazdaSpeed parts are warrantied seperately through the MazdaSpeed program or division...whatever it is. Each different MS part has it's own color code, which relates to the warranty that's applied to it. If you are unsure how your specific part is covered go speak the with parts manager and he should have a thick white book with the parts and warranties listed for those parts. The warranty covers mechanical defect and not installation. The warranties for those parts are completely seperate from your bumper-to-bumper and powertrain warranties and are non-severable to such warranties.

So you can get your part installed by someone else and still have your mod covered. But that will only happen if you can prove that the part was defected...which can get a bit depending...on a lot of things. Your installation will be covered by a basic labor warranty through the Mazda if you get it installed at a Mazda dealership.

Now....how all of that relates to Jap MS parts..???? I have no clue. Go speak to the service manager at your local dealership and see what they tell you. And you might want to get that in writing.

Yes,, I asked my sevice guy several times,, he just says don't wory about it,, "we'll take care of U". Nothing in writing, thats what worries me.
As far as the warranty goes,, i was not asking so much about the mod parts them selves but the B to B warranty as a whole. like if I have more tranny trouble down the road but have modified the clutch, flywheel and presure plate with MS parts from Japan... will the B to B still cover the tranny... or engine... stuff like that. I will have to look over the MS sight like zoom44 suggested however, Japan MS parts are probibly not on there if local MS dealers are any indication.
Thanks for all the good info and taking the time to help.
Regards,
Grey

Nahh, what happens is that your original parts are covered under the BtoB warranty and these new parts are excluded from said warranty, because they have their own.

A lot of your warranty issues may also depend on who your service rep is. I've found one that will fix my car, even if it was caused by an aftermarket part as long as I can get him the original part for him to send back to Mazda to "show" that it was defective.
