Warranty/flooding questions

Heres my prob. On Friday I attemted to crank my 2004 RX8 and it flooded on me, I attribute that to the combination of a 'very' short trip the day before and a 'very' cold Fri morning. I had it towed to the local Mazda dealership to have them take care of it. Now they are telling me that they not going to bother with it untill i get new spark plugs, they said they need to be replaced after 30K miles and it istnt covered under warranty. they want 170 for the plugs and 160 for the labor. F#*K that. Since it was the flooding that messed up the plugs (according to them) do yall think that they should still replace the plugs at no cost? I also heard something about a plug recall or something? And could someone verse me on all the recalls for pre2005 models? Thanks.

1) tell them about the TSB on this subject
2) tell them you are going to contact Mazda North America and tell them about this
3) Tell them they are a-holes
4) Take it to another dealership and never go back there.

mugatu says SEARCH!

search around for engine crank - no start TSB in this forum, it's all *over* the place. You could also heard over to "the tech garage" section of the forum. Find the recall / TSB sticky and it will answer all your questions.

In the TSB, they will replace your starter, battery, spark plugs, and flash your computer.

The TSB calls for the unconditional removal and replacement of the spark plugs. It looks like even if the old plugs are of the revised design, they should still be replaced as part of the flood repair. Unless your car is over 50K miles you should not be responsible for the cost.

I would print out the TSB and politely take it to the dealer requesting that steps in the TSB be done including making sure that your car either already has or is upgraded to:

- Latest PCM update
- 640 CCA battery
- Updated starter
- Redesigned leading plugs

If your dealer refuses to do it call the Mazda North America Operations 800 number, say your car has flooded and that your dealer won't do the TSB under warranty and that you believe this should be done under warranty. Everyone who has posted about making such a complaint to MNAO seems to have gotten the work covered.

The call to MNAO is amazing. For some reason some of the dealers fight doing the work even though MNAO will pay for it. Yet MNAO doesn't seem to balk for an instant in authorizing repairs on this issue.

Very strange ....

This could be because the repair/part rates that MNAO is willing to pay to the dealership are lower that those that the dealership can charge the general public (??).
