Well I did have the UIM off a few months ago and noticed some carbon down on the outer most runners. I spray a judicious amount of seafoam down there, but the motor was cold, not hot, so it may have been less effective at removing the carbon build up. The upper valve (SSV ?) was clean as a whistle and operated smoothly. I guess I could pull the uim and use some Mazda Zoom Cleaner to see if it can get into the lower valve (APV ?). Im registering at some file hosting sites to see if I can get a bite up for all to hear.

I had a friend post a link on our club webpage of the noise clip I emailed to him. At the present my computer cannot play the file, however, he is able to listen with no problems. He has a MAC so it may just be my windows system. I am posting it here in hopes that someone can get it to play. If not, I'll get him over with his digicamcorder and go that route. I apologize in advance if this is a dead link.

I'll keep trying to get it up. In the mean time, I am going to contact another dealership to see if my VIN is flagged or not. I was not giong to contact MNAO on this, but after combing thought the warranty book and sections in the owners manual, I see nothing that implicately states that having a midpipe on would void the core powertrain warranty. It lists an emissions warranty as a seperate entity and it should certainly voided, but given the history of issues with this car, an outright "I'm gonna void it but don't know whats wrong with it" seems wrong to me... I digress, though. As for those wondering why I didn't pull the parts before the rep was in, well the service manager basically lied to me about what days they were testing and when the rep would be in. He was telling me things 1 visit behind what was actually taking place. The day I was supposed to take it in for the rep was the day I got told the warranty was already voided. He had come last visit when they were doing more "testing" for the techline.

do not take it with MNAO which they will not help you out. Most likely that dealer sent pictures of your motor and modifications. They may say your warranty is voided but might've not voided just yet. Even if it goes Flagged doesnt mean its voided just yet. Go to another DEALER A.S.A.P! do not just bring in your car just yet, tell them your situation first and see what further help they can help you with.

but if a Regional manager came to see it then that would be a different story.

good luck.

and quick question... the dealer that voided your warranty... did u buy your car there? or what? do you have a service history with them, like always got your oil change and recalls done at that dealer??

Well, I actually think I fixed the knocking issue. All it took was running 3/4 can of Seafoam through the front rotor (this is where the sound seemed to be originating from), soaking for about 25 minutes, and then driven like hell. I run the car hard usually, but this was a "I'm gonna either blow it up or fix it" run. Well it has been gone for 2 days now, not a hint even. I will do a another treatment before our next club cruise, which should really clean her out. I premix with MMO on the heavy side. I'm thinking the cleaning action of MMO is not as effective as I assumed it to be.
