Question Warranty coverage?

My '04 8 just decided to have the crankshaft seize up on me. It as 85k-ish miles, its less then 90k for sure. Can someone tell me if the 8 yr 100k mile warranty will cover it, and I know a new engine will have to be put in. I wasnt sure if the crankshaft would be covered under the core engine warranty.

Yes it should be covered under warranty. +1 please tell us more about this. I have also never ever heard of an e-shaft seizing up.

I would be interested as well. Maybe he had a bearing freeze up on him premature. These things happen.

I know there has been evidence of e-shaft bearings wearing down to the copper on engines over 100K with 5-20 oil but never heard of one actually seize.

its possible if one of the bearings broke in half. I saw it happen once on a pickup truck when I was working for GMC. The guy had a wheel bearing break in half and then lodge itself as a wedge freezing up the wheel on the highway. This almost caused a roll over accident when one wheel locked up.

Much more likely the engine is carbon locked.
