I've read a lot about how turning off a cold engine can lead to flooding, but what's the consensus on warming up the car?

1) Should I warm it up first thing in the morning? If so, for how long? Is it a function of time or the engine temperature gauge? What are the consequences of not warming it up?

2) What if it's the middle of the day, I go shopping, come out of the store, turn the ignition on and see that the engine temperature gauge is at its halfway point? Do I still need to warm it up? If I don't what are the consequences?

 

1- warm up your car, drive and just take it easy for about 10 to 15 minute so the oil and moving has reach its operating temperature. Your car warm up faster when it is moving instead of sitting in one spot.

2- if the gauge is already half way and your car has been driven for a while, there is no warming up period just drive for a bit to get the oil moving before you floor it.

Also there is a lot of threads on this, just do a search. What I describe above is my routine base on the info I read from some the threads on this topic.

So, the warmup is no different than what you would do for any car. Is that correct.

Tried to find other threads on warming up the engine, but I couldn't find anything specific. I typed in warm up.

Yes. Funny I did the same search you did and it came up with threads that does not give you much details. Have you try the www.rx7club.com site, do a search there maybe it will give you more results.

 

Yes, warm up as you would any other car. Everyone should warm up their cars for a minimum of one minute in the morning, less if it's been driven within the last hour. I always crank the engine, and then buckle up, adjust the radio, etc. Gives the car a few seconds to get ready. I wouldn't want to run a marathon after being woken up at 5am, and neither does your car.

Yes, I agree that about 1 minute at idle in the morning is sufficient. Longer than that could actually be a negative thing.

Take it easy for the first 10 minutes or so.

 

Flooding shouldn't be a concern any morewith the M Flash.
I have drove to the Corner store and back a couple of times with no flooding problems. Just in the Winter I would warm up the car before driving though.
