Warming up

Okay so I know never to rev past 4k rpms until fully warmed. But how bad is it to drive while cold at all? For awhile, I wouldn't shift outta park until the temp needle moved. Now I sometimes wait for the rpms to get below 2k at idle and then just go easy until its warmed up. Is this a bad habit? How long should I wait before driving it if at all.

Also what does it do when you rev past 4k cold? When I was an rx8 noob for a week or so, I didn't know better so I probably did this a few times

Ten seconds. Better to drive it (gently, of course) than to let it idle for a long time. Running under load will warm it up quicker. Plus, the transmission and rear end need to warm up, and they only warm by driving.

When it's cold outside I wait for the rpms to drop down to about 1.5k and have a consistent idle (no revving), but when it's warm out I start the car, fasten seatbelt, open windows and I'm on my way.
