want to bring 42" hdtv home. Possible?

When I bought my 42" LCD we had a hard time getting it into my dad's Cherokee. Ain't no way you're getting that into an 8. Borrow or rent a truck. You aren't going to get it into an 8, much less haul it for 70 miles. You need a truck or SUV.

Just rent a U-Haul.
If you insist on using your RX-8, line towels on your roof then strap the box on with ratchet straps. LCD is considerably lighter than plasmas so I think it's fine.

See if you can get a fellow 8 owner in the Denver area with a 2nd car to help you out. Offer to pay for drinks, dinner, Sbux card, whatever. Check out the regional forum.

Won't fit unless everything in the rear is gutted out. The box for almost all 42 inch T.V.'s no matter what brand is actually bigger than most think. I bought a 42 inch samsung and could not get it to go in the back of my moms 745LI as big as that thing is.
Won't even fit in some SUVS. Most likely in most cars and SUVS, you will have to remove the box because that thing alone takes up a good amount of space in the vehicle. Once out of the box it might still give you problems as far as space and making sure the T.V. will not be damaged at the same time.
Play it safe and find a pick up or a good size SUV/UHAUL. Some cars will let you get away with it. 42 inch +=different level.

my 42 fit without box layed flat in the trunk of my 2001 dodge stratus RT coupe with back seats folded forward, the *** on that car is huge, lots of overhang, trunk is like a 70s american car but is actually a stretched 3G Mitsu Eclipse platform.
I dont think youll get it in the 8 box or not.
The Stratus ***:

It's not possible with the box but it's possible without the box.
But I thought that plasmas suppose to be hauled standing up? I only bought a couple before but they emphasize it every time. I think there was a liquid level on the boxes.
I think it's better for you not to do it then.

I recently brought home a 50 inch Panasonic G10 series Plasma home in the back of my 8. I took it out of the box and believe me it barely fit. You can fit a 42 inch easily. Do not lay it completely flat or you could seriously damage your flat panel. Also bring some pillows so you do not damage the interior. If I were to do it all over I would have just gone home and brought my Jeep back to do the job.

Mail order (many places with free shipping deals) are the way to go.
Last year I bought a 42" plasma and had to borrow a SUV, and with the tv in the box it was tight; there's no way a 50" would've fit in that truck.
Good thing you got it home. Was it a new set? Plasma or LCD?

Glad everything worked out for you man.
I remember last winter buying a Panasonic Blu Ray 1250watt home theater system and that barley fit into the rear seats. We made it home in one piece. Now I know to take my girls car or friends with larger rides.
Good luck with it
