VIN question. For the love of God...help!

Alright everyone, I know I'm new and I may be asking a repetitive question, but I've searched a few times and I need to know the answe ASAP. So -8-, if you want to reply with the hand directing me to the search button, don't bother, I've already tried.

Anyway, I'm not the most savvy with technical talk, but one thing I have gathered from reading posts from this forum is that newer models are less likely to disappoint and anything with a VIN with the last 5 digits over 30,000 is the way to go. Well, I purchased my RX-8 a whole 4 days ago and I figured everything had to be in order. I also travel almost constantly over the summer for my job and I only have the weekends to actually go home and see my beloved new car. Well, I called my roommate and told him where the 'hidden' key was so he could read me the VIN from my car (for insurance purposes) and the last 5 digits are a measly 14,348. Not to say this is bad, but I want to make sure that all the upgrades have been installed on the vehicle. I've read somewhere to look under the hood for stickers, but what all should I look for? the more specific you can be, the better. I still haven't completely ended my financiing for the car with the dealership and if I can factor in some last minute upgrades, I would truly be grateful.

By the way, for me to tell my roommate where the hidden key is, you have to know I'm desperate. I can't imagine him having access to my car while I'm out of town and I keep having these recurring nightmares of the Ferris Bueller scenario.

Please let me know what is important with the newer models, so that I can demand what is installed in my brand new 8. The more info, the better.

Otherwise, thanks for the advice, the good times, and the great oldies. I am relatively new to this site, but I find myself checking it about 20 times a day. I would love to share my experiences with my car as I go along. Otherwise...

"Sometimes the lights all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. Lately it occurs to me...What a long, strange trip it's been."

Try this.....take your vin, register at mymazda, and they'll list out all the possible recalls on your car, based off of the vin number. I don't know if the MSP04 shows up on there tho...it's a flash that gives back power in the upper rpm ranges. I know the others definitely show up.

To read the VIN, you shouldn't have to give the key to anyone. The VIN is plainly visible behind the windshield, on a little placard.
As for stickers, some people have them, others don't. I, for one, have no sticker anywhere I'd know of (yes, I searched), and my car had the airbag recall and the M flash done.

Did you buy it from a dealer in St. Louis? If so, which one? I bought mine from Lou Fusz on Lindbergh and have had nothing but great service from them.

If you just bought the car 4 days ago, the dealer should have already done any recalls that were needed. As far as flashes, that could be another story. You could always do the brake pedal test to see if you at least have the L flash.

Under Hood Stickers

I purchased my RX-8 2/2004 but it was an early build (5/2003) and has a VIN UNDER 01500. So far the only problem was the Oil Pan TSB so there are early builds that run fine. I only received the “M Flash” last month and thanks to this board new what to look out for and never flooded. I have three stickers under the hood near the latch (see photo). I will post a photo of each tag next. Two are for recalls done at the port and by the dealer and the newest one is for the M-Flash

Thanks for the tip, went and registered and was very happy to see that I had no recall notices for my car, now I just need to get the dealer to do the M Flash on my next oil change. This is a nice tool if you own an Rx8 its a nice way to track mileage maintenance etc.
