Video Game Simulation Accuracy of the Rx8

I don't play video games everyday, but when I do, the only type of games I play are racing games like NFS; Burnout; Midnight Club; PGR; Forza; etc.

Burnout is by far the most fun (racing) game ever I think. PGR2 has some decent tracks (most horrible soundtrack) and good 'realism.' Forza is supposed to be the most 'realistic' and 'accurate' driving simulation video game, but it somehow just doesn't quite feel like the real thing.

I don't like how the Rx8 feels in any video game. I think PGR2 is the most accurate in terms of handling for the 8, but I think the accelerations feels off.

I know the 8 isn't the fastest straight-line driving machine out there, but damn.. is it really that God-awful slow?

I tend to 'fly' off the track when I know there's no way in hell I could ever have missed that turn in real life. WTF? I don't think it's my hand-eye coordination! WTF?

Driving our lovely car in video games just isn't anywhere near the same feeling we get as when I drive the damn thing -- plain and simple.

I can tell you right now that the Forza version of the 8 drives way more realistically than any of those other crappy games.

I've only got the original PGR.. and have always found the RX-8 the most fun to drive (even well before I considered buying one... seriously!)

My biggest gripe with racing games is the fact that I cant 'feel' how fast im really going, you dont feel the force of a turn or braking, that makes it harder to know when to brake, ect.

I find myself looking at the gauges and other cars a lot more.....after I play for 20 mins or so straight, I get a good feel for the game and my lap times get much better, but it seems like everytime I sit down, I have to go thru that 20 min 'warm-up' to get a feel for the lap.

I really only ever played three games on my ps2: Gran Turismo, Tokyo Extreme Racing, and Madden.

Gran Turismo imo the most realistic, and fun driving game ever. I think Tokyo EXtreme Racing was very realistic also except it wasn't as fun.

I've only tried forza once and I guess I was spoiled from gt4 but I didn't think it was that great at all.

I believe forza is most realistic of the games. The sound, handling, and... speed. GT4 is pretty good as well, but it feels slighty more difficult to take turns. Especially in far view mode.

The only view that should be used is in car view as that should give you the best feel for the car. I've even bought the stupid fanatec speedster 3 wheel for the xbox, and although it's the best damn wheel I've used, it's still nothing compared to the real thing. It's too small and doesn't feel liek the real deal.

Shifting just isn't the same. Why can't they come out with a clutch / gearbox combo for teh PC? (And if you say one exists, I bet you it won't work with whatever game you may want to use it in.) They have this in some arcades, but then the games are sooooo frigging crappy and dated. WTF?!

If I sound cranky it's b/c I'm at work. And yes, I work for a friggin software company and just pisses me off when they cut out enthusiasts. Damn marketing people.

well. i have tried GT3 and 4, Enthousia, Fronza, and some Touge Max.
the one i felt most connected to was Enthousia. In that game, all most every car handles and accelerate like in real life.

Well that video shows that it is very close indeed and it also shows how well these game designers can model real world tracks. That was awesome! 100mph going into that turn is cool, how many other cars can do that? (Note: Rhetorical question)

I have to agree with the others that I think GT4 is the best driving simulator game available. Although you can't feel the turns, it gives a pretty realistic idea of what it would be like to turn in certain vehicles. That being said, I think the best combo as far as engine mods for an 8 in GT4, would be full N/A tune, then strap a S/C on it. It has a really nice powerband, and gives me better lap times than my higher powered stage 3 turbo 8.

Question...is the RX8 present in GT3? If so, how realistic is that compared to GT4?

only if GT4 had a little more customizing (real body kits, motor swaps [yeah...20B big block 3 rotor baby!] and online play. now that would be kick ***.
