Upgrade Nav to play dvd movies?
I was wondering if anyone in rx8club new if you could replace the dvd-rom player in the back for the navigation, with a standard dvd playing unit that plays dvd-rom, as well as other dvd formats?
Thanks so much.

there are quite a few threads on this. type in "dvd nav conversion" or something similar to this into the search bar. Basically you have to buy a box and then wire it in between your existing nav playter and nav display. The nav player cannot play dvds and there is no conversion firmware that you can download into it (many have searched and tried). It's been a few months since I read the threads, but the part you need is a couple hundred bucks and then you need to wire it in. When you search and find the threads, there are wiring DIY's. GL

You need a video switcher that will switch between navigation and video. You will also need some sort of video source, either ipod or dvd player. I got my setup from ebay and spent about $250 for everything. The video switcher was $150, dvd player $70, backup camera $30. Install is fairly simple, there is a DIY somewhere.
