So this thread is a followup to another thread I started almost a month ago pertaining to my Mazda dealer here at Penn State not willing to help with TSB and warranty'd items. Quick catchup... my dealer wanted about $300 for new brake pads and rotors machined... another $100 for a new battery and more for a new starter and spark plugs (an amount they didn't give me)...

So for a business writing class here Penn State, I had to write a business letter to a company showing either gratitude or displeasure in services I received. What a perfect time to write the letter I've wanted to write to Rider Mazda in State College. So I wrote the letter and the jist of the assignment was that if we received a letter back from the company we were exempt from having to write another letter later that year. Sure enough, I received an email and phone call from the Service Manager at Rider Mazda. After talking with him a short time, we scheduled a time to bring my car back in for them to take another look at it.

To the point of this thread... they replaced my brake pads, upgraded my battery to the premium battery.. and ordered a starter and spark plugs for me (which I will go back in, in a week to get replaced).

So because of a letter, and some kind talking... I just received exactly what I was asking for in the first place... Brakes, Battery, Starter, & Spark Plugs for FREE!!

You shouldn't have had to write a letter to get those for free, they shouldve been free to begin with.

mazda CS sucks.

When I told my parents about what the dealer did for me and the assignment, that was exactly their response as well. Unfortunately I ended up getting a B+ on it and whether I got something or not has no weigh on the grade. SUCKS!

Nice. And you can probably resolve the dealer's urine stench on your driver seat with some baking soda. Try it .. no; good work though. You have to stand up and yell sometimes; that's life.

It is sad that consumers have to often follow up and push for procedures and service that should be provided without the hassle.

brake pads are covered under warranty??

Not warranty, but their is a TSB for squealing brakes and mine were surely doing that. They originally told me at my mileage that I just needed to replace them and the TSB only covers when they are decently new and squealing..

... but I got them replaced. It's worth a try for all who need new brake pads... worst comes to worst, write a letter & hope...

I like the concept that all business dealings should be trouble free. However, my read is that it wasn't Mazda's fault. It was the dealer that was giving the customer push back.

^ No one said it was Mazda's fault. CS Dealer was the only 'company' mentioned.

HEY HEY HEY!! Easy.... Both of your front lines were too dominant for us to win the game. You have to admit though, the hit on Morelli that knocked him out was a bit of a helmet-to-helmet. I'm excited to see how you all hold up against OSU.

Gee, I just can figure out why Mazda's service is rated so poorly.

Good work, it is just a shame what you have to do with Mazda to get them to do what they are suppose to.

I only partially agree. Mazda sucks at not having things be considered "warranty" in the first place. But after a little complaining (when I agree you shouldn't have to do) they give in pretty quickly.

A rock came up and hit my air condenser about a month ago. They first told me that it was not warrantied because it wasn't a cause of mechanical failure (which is true, but it was Mazda's fault for not protecting important parts of the engine bay). It would have cost me 800, but I was so pissed at the fact that I had the car 2 weeks and I had to put a grand into it, that I called the Mazda sales rep in the area and somewhat bitched him out. After calling him a couple of times, he finally caved, warrantying the condenser and even paying for my rental.

I'm just glad they stood behind their vehicle.
