Good deal! When an insurance company wants to total a car, they've been through the numbers and are making the correct economic decision. Quite a good price for a car with that age and mileage.

Hope you decide your replacement will be another 8. We'll miss you if you go renegade on us.

Decent offer from the insurance company! Does that include the tax payable to you?

In NY, when my insurance company gave me a check for my totaled RX8 they were obligated to give me the tax on that amount.

So they gave me $15,675 and then in addition they gave me $1,600 tax.

You should ask them about it, maybe laws here in NY are different.

I've had that happen in Virginia. I think it's pretty universal. They're supposed to give you enough money to buy an equal valued car at retail. That includes what you'd have to pay in sales tax. I did have to remind them, asking if the check they sent included sales tax. At the time VA tax on cars was only 2%. I should have moved to NYC before filing my claim.

Had a theft loss once where my homeowner's insurance company added sales tax without even being reminded.
