Smile UK News

Found this site a couple of weeks ago, and still can't believe how many postings there for a car that is n't out yet, it'll take some beating !

In the UK, my dealer called and is getting a RX8 for local viewing in a couple of weeks, and said a few have now entered the Uk and my original order may arrive sooner than expected.

I also got a letter from Mazda today, and am picking up a 190 page bound book on the RX8 from the dealers this weekend, as a complimentary gift.

Three questions I do have, in the Uk the RX8 is quoted at 240bhp / ps (is PS the same) the hi power version, yet all the early reports quoted 250bhp. Which one is it 240 or 250 ? May sound daft but secondly the euro lip spoiler is this at the front of back of the car ? any pictures ? Final question has mazda published fuel economy figures yet ? will it be around 25 mpg or is this wishful thinking ?

Ta in advance

First of all welcome to the forum. Second the european version of the rx-8 will be less powerful than the us version(which is rated at 250). As for the spoiler i have no idea.

Craig you should check in with the europe part of the forum. they will be very interested to hear about the vehicle that will be at your dealer. the lip spoiler is a small spoiler on the boot. the lower HP figure is correct for the UK- it has something to do with emissions. the rest of your questions (and request for pics) will be better handled by the likes of Oilman and Lensman.

someone move this to the European Forum please.

Welcome, Craig!!

The "lip spoiler" from what I hear is standard in the euro models and would be located on the rear trunk (bonnet ?) of the car. You guys do call it the bonnet, don't you?

cheers!

Craig Which dealer is that? most dont know a thing about when any of the cars are going to show up, and mazda UK have only just released a schedule for the ONLY car in the UK.

from Mazdarx8.co.uk :

"HSBC Track Day 20 May CH&L event
SMMT Test Day 22 May Press event
Motordrive Live 24 - 27 May Retail event (Millbrook)
Docklands Motor Show 2 - 8 June Retail event (Canary Wharf)
Formula Woman Test Day 11 June
MX-5 Owner's Club Rally 14 - 15 June Retail event
Company Car in Action 24 - 27 June Fleet event (Millbrook)
Goodwood Festival of Speed 11 - 13 June Retail event - TBC "

So thats the Only car in the uk (blue womens racer badged one) booked up until the end of June...

Craig, your dealer is being 'economical with the truth'. There was never any chance of a dealer getting a demo car in mid June. Mazda Uk have informed the dealers that they will not receive the first cars until MID SEPTEMBER. And those first cars will be for the pre-order customers. Thats also when the dealers get their demos. How cute is that?!!! You can buy the car but under no circumstances can you test drive it beforehand!

If we start a rumour that the cars are built in France with parts shipped in from Iraq, via North Korea, then maybe our US friends might boycott the car. Thus freeing up production for the UK batch. Reckon that's a goer?

the dealer is peter hawke of huddersfield. Can't see why they would specifically call me to invite me to the viewing, its at a hotel in Huddersfield. I put my deposit down a couple of months ago, so there's no incentive for them to call me out out the blue about a non existent event !!

And wat do you mean 231ps i thought from previous threads its 240, can't see it being less unless ps is less than bhp ratio ?

Believe me, it's 231ps. Data released to Dealers (UK) 15/5/03.

See specs on European forum.
