Turbo's And Supercharger Talk

Well all this talk about you know, Turbo's and Superchargers at SEMA and APEX are making me... Well think. I hope we dont end up like the 350Z guys. What do I mean by that? Well what are we going to get out of this FI set up? and for what price?. The 350Z cars I have seen in all the mags are 40HP = $40,000 set up. And what about a daily-driver?. So in the end what do it all mean? and why do it?.

40HP = $40,000 who agreed to that deal and how many chromosomes are they missing?

A turbo/supercharger, depending on boost, will make about 45-100HP from what I have seen, so they are worth a try.

Note: Motortrends last mag had a fixed up RX-8 which was running 14.1 1/4 miles but hurt driveablity and MoTREND did not like it very much. So...the search will continue...

I'm in the 'more power please' camp - but i won't sacrifice the razor handling. If i just wanted torque alone there's other cars i could have bought.

That said even if someone had a guaranteed 100HP that i could bolt on i'm not paying anywhere near that. Mazda will have a tuned SC/Turbo out and some point and i'll just trade in then. I don't need/want 400 HP. I'd like a little more low end torque and little more go throughout the powerband. I can wait.

I was talking to a friend about this last night - IMO 8 drivers didn't buy the car for power. Simple as that. SRT-4/EVO/STi etc... is what you want if it's all about the GO! For me it's about the feeling, the fun, the impeccable balance...can't wait to AutoX it. So i didn't buy it for power and knew that going in. Happy as a pig in sh*t.

By the same token im following the various SC/Turbo projects closely...

I just hope Mazda makes whatever kit they come out with available as a retro-fit kit.

I want more torque as well, enough for it to not be as annoying in stop 'n go daily traffic.

This is so weird. Only one flame on this guy for posting "40 HP = 40,000". Everyone must be sleeping or busy.

I wanna ask "Where the hell does that equation come from?"

No boost kit in the WORLD costs that much. Yet. $10,000 is as much as most pay to do it simply and do it right. For that $10,000 you get adjustabililty of boost from very little to moderate, and all the way to insane amounts.

Do not forget the question above!

I think he met 40,000 dollars including the cost of the car.

Apologize if repost, I did not find anything after a search.

I was in the bookstore today and saw Speed magazine (put out by Road & Track, apparently). On the cover was a white 8 with a hood scoop and a more aggressive body kit. Reading it, the writer saw the car driving around, and pull into a Mazda R&D building. He confirmed it as a supercharged 8 from the Mazda engineers, after some prodding. Has anyone else seen this? Here is a quote from the Road and Track website:

"SPEED Editor Sam Mitani gains exclusive access to Mazda's super-secret RX-8. With its specially-designed Mazdaspeed suspension improvements (shocks and springs, anti-roll bars) and supercharged rotary, this is one mean sports car, lapping Willow Springs faster than a Porsche Boxster S or the Nissan 350Z."

Apologize if repost, I did not find anything after a search.

EDIT: It's my avatar.
