Unhappy trany problem

I searched around but could not find the answer i was looking for.

First, my second gear is making noise when i downshift into it when doing around 40-50. i am guessing thats my syncros in 2nd.

second, now i find that more offten i am in neutral and i try to push the shifter to the left(not into a gear but just in between 1st and 2nd) but it wont let me move the shifter left(no matter how hard i try).

any thoughts on the problems, and how much it would be to fix them.
i just lost my warrenty on my tranny last month.
04 mt with 35,000 miles.

thanks.

what noise is it making? Grinding, poping, etc? As far as the shift goes, I haven't the slightest.

its a grinding that goes away after i go in to the gear completely, but it only does it when i am going at a high speed for the gear, like shifting from 3-4 it is fine

2nd gear grinding was a known problem. Too bad you're out of warranty, hopefully you have a friend that knows how to rebuild transmissions. It ain't cheap.

You could do a try and make Mazda replace it. Even if you're out of warranty, they should be kind enough to replace it if it's a common problem.

Chances are the dealership won't do a thing if he's out of warranty since they are dealerships and their main goal is profit. Doing it for free without them having any reason to defeats the purpose of that. However, it really depends on the dealership. If he has a good relationship with his dealership and knows the mechanics there's a chance they may do it for free or at a discounted price. But I wouldn't count on that... Hope you get it fixed

Well that means he's in the 5th year now? That means he's still under warranty or?

That depends when he bought the car. But regardless of that, the OP said his warranty already ran out so I assume he's not covered anymore. I could be wrong though.
