Sorry Dude.

Gord96BRG is right. GAP is the key to prevent this. That's the whole reason it's available. Without it, you're hosed. But just think of getting it fixed and trying to resell. Probably loose even more! Push for as much as you can. Then turn aroudn and tell them they need to compensat you for Sales Tax. you had to pay it!

Best of luck.

Good Luck, so sorry for your loss. I think insurance companies will lower your settlement if you take the car or any parts of it. I know they were going to do that with what was left of my stolen car. Make sure you know what they will subtract before you decide to keep the salvage.

Also if you can find any examples of cars like yours for sale (with similar mileage) you should be able to fight to get that much as a settlement. I think the idea is to give you about what it would cost to replace the vehicle. Don't check places like ebay, try to find a dealer selling a used one. When they totalled my car they did a survey of all the cars like mine sold in the area and included dealer sales which brought the settlement up significantly.

Unfortunately there probably aren't many used 8s for sale, good luck. But ultimately no matter what happens just be glad you are okay and walking etc. That's the most important thing and worth a lot more than $7K. I know it's hard to remember that sometimes but it's true.

This is an awful thread to read, so sad to see another titaniam grey in that shape. I hope you can work out a better deal. On the parts side, I'd be interested in your rear passenger side tail light housing if its not cracked.

Its kind of like being an organ doner. Your car will live on in the bodies of ours.

good luck

Hmm.. The agent called me back, turns out they left the sales tax off. Said it was some type of computer glitch.

No idea on how much difference that will make, but should be much closer to my 'happy place'.

Now I get to await another call tomorrow.

LOL... although if I had to lose my baby it would make me feel better to know at least some parts of it would live on as part of other members' cars.

Vultures just take.
We're willing to hand out the benjamins for his parts.

Sales tax will make a difference of about 1750 on 28,000.

Man o man...... I totally feel your pain with you.

I made my wife get GAP insurance. It is a cheap add-on to the price of the car. Gord96BRG stated that GAP only covered for 1 year. I swear ours is good for 2-3 years. I'll have to dbl check on that and repost.

The insurance company will sell it for scrap/parts to somebody. But he can buy it first and do whatever he want to it. On older cars especially ones with a lot of steel (inflick more damage than they take) it is possible to total a car and it still be drivable.

The insurance company allows you to buy the vehicle back from them for what they will get for salvage price from the junkyard. Then it is yours to do with as you will.

Okay, update.

The grand total came to about 30k (good guess Ajax) ...

If I choose to salvage the car, I lose the sales tax and I would have to pay about $7195, so as you can probably guess, I don't think I'll be saving the car for the reason that I don't think I could make that much more off of it (plus the sales tax I lose) ... My loss would be about 8500 all together if I salvaged it.

I have a couple days to claim it if someone wants to buy the entire back end of the car for a little over that. It's got the big nice bose, leather seats, all wheels/rims, spoiler and a nav. I'd have to come up with an estimate I could actually make some money on... possibly around 11k... just a guess. The picture's on page 1 of the thread if there's any takers.

yep, I pulled what I could of the stereo/aftermarket alarm. It was not covered under my insurance so I pretty much HAD to get it out.

Gotta pay for labor once more though, yay.

Max,
I am sorry to hear about your loss... With the money they will pay you, you might buy a used rx8 in the similar condition, or go to a dealership and negotiate. When I bought mine there was no negotiation (almost a year ago) but now you can buy one under the invoice. Fully loaded gt with nav should sell at around 30-31K. Do not forget about Gap this time!
Good Luck!

I'm interested in buying it.

What is the buyback? What will you sell it for?

Damn, was hoping I could buy the seats. I've been meaning to buy a couple bucket seats to have front and center for playing games/watching movies. guess I'll have to break down and buy some racing buckets to throw in there instead...unless anybody knows where I could find some rx-8 seats...

Max,
sorry about your loss. I'm assuming you'll be replacing it with another 8 ASAP?!

It might be worth asking who insurance is going to be selling it to.

Hopefully in a few weeks this will just be a sad memory/learning experience.

All the best,
Rachel

I'm pretty sure mine lasts the entire for the entire lifetime of the note (4 more years...). I pay about 16 a month, though, which is less than what others report paying (around 10).

I thought GAP insurance just covered the difference between the value of the car and the loan payoff amount (not the difference between the value of the car and the price for a new car).

My gap lasts as long as the loan, it's through USAA. Any loan through USAA includes free gap. Sadly it's only for Military/government workers and their famlies. Tough breaks man, good luck.
