Torque is relative...
I had a funny minor epiphany today. For the past week I have been exclusively driving my S2000 because the weather has been good and I love top-down driving. This morning I drove my RX8, and was overwhelmed by the mountains of torque. It felt like a Chevy big-block V8 compared with my S2000, pinning me back into the seat, and (unintentionally) chirping the tires when shifting.
I absolutely love both my S2000 and RX8. I will give them up when my cold dead fingers are pried off their shift levers. But, if you want to feel a quick boost in the torque of your RX8, drive a S2000 for a while.
You don't need gobs of torque to have fun behind the wheel (ask any Formula 1 race car driver).

Wow. Relative is right.
Okay, if the RX8 truly has loads of torque, the next time I drive an 8, I might accidently put my right foot through the floorboard looking for it.
GTO kind of spoils you in this respect. If the tires a little cold, roll into full throttle in second gear from 2000 RPM and feel the tires progressively lose their grip, snaking down the road at 45mph... and my car is nothing special... basically stock. I think that's torque, and it IS fun.
Does your S2000 have the F22C1 or the F20C? I've only driven an S2000 once, but I don't remember it having THAT much less torque than the 8.

YaXMaNGTO, I was just trying to share a little humorous perspective (somehow it struck me as funny this morning when I pulled away in my RX8, at how "torquey" it felt compared with my S2000). Of course the RX8 is not in any sense a "torquey" engine, but it felt like it compared to my S2000 (and that's not a knock against the S2000, I absolutely love it, it just is what it is).
I've owned many V8's and know the fun of torque, which it definitely is. But, I personally still prefer the jet turbine sound and feel of a wankel, or the spine-tingling scream of the S2000 (I got more of a thrill at winding out a high-revving engine at Lime Rock than I did sling-shotting down a quarter mile, but both are fun). I also liked both my old Suzuki RE5 wankel motorcyle and my Harley, but the RE5 gave me more goose bumps. My S2000 is the 2200 engine, on paper it has similar max torque to the RX8, but the curve is different, the peak is at higher rpm and it has less down low compared with the RX8.
Like I said, it's relative...

you wanna talk no torque..I drove my brothers GSL-SE yesterday...man oh man talk about no torque! forgot how gutless FB's are lol!
I miss that kick in the pants the miata would give me, gotta love torque multipliers...

on his 3rd rx8

the thing that pissed me off about the 2k was the throttle response UGH! fck i hate cars that have bad throttle response, and the s2k was one of them...
i guess the difference was in the vtec, the 8 produces all the way through, but the s2k as soon as it hit vtec yo, you can feel the difference
