I have 12000 miles on my car and had the tires rotated twice. The last time i got away from the dealer i noticed this big annoying humming sound coming from the tires. They had just made the rotation. It is at the limit of being intolerable. I switched them back and it is better but now the rear ones have alot more wear on them and i cannot rotate them because of that noise. Now i have driven the car very lightly no big accelerations, not like a Granny but never abused it. Should the tires last longer before spiking and being so loud now? And don't you guys think theses bridgestones are very loud even brand new?

 

Coming from Dunlop SP9000s I think the Bridgestones are on the loud side.. Hopefully Dunlop will have our sizes by the time I need new tires..

Have your alignment checked as well.

 

Be sure that whoever rotated your tires didn't criss-cross them. If they are now on the "wrong" side of the car, the wear pattern will make them louder. Longer term, if the tires are on the wrong side, there will be increased heat build-up and possible probelms.

Have your alignment checked thoroughly. After my first tire rotation the noise coming from the rear was upbearable. At first I was told that there might be some slight cupping and to let the rear tires wear down some. I followed this suggestion but the noise has only gotten louder. I took my baby in 2 weeks ago and the dealer found that my tired were severly cupped and that my factory alignment was grossly wrong. After proving to Mazda that the alignment was all jacked up, Mazda authorized a new set of tires for me. I will have them but on next week with a few other parts I was waiting on.

I have around 20,500 miles and 2 tire rotations and no problems at all. My tires seem smooth and quiet.

I'd have to agree with the people above who think it's the alignment.

I had these on the WRX and they were awesome.. Near Proxes T1-S performance minus the noises..

 

The problem you are having is a well documented problem with Bridgestone RE040's. If you take a look at the outer 1/3 of the tread area you will notice a wear pattern called feathering. It is this uneven wear pattern that causes the noise. It is from the soft rubber compound and is made worse if you like to corner at high G's. This problem occours on quite a few other Max performance tires as well. I know of a number of RX8 and 350Z owners who were able to get the bridgestones replaced free because of excessive early wear. Look into this. If you can't go that route, try a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE750's. They handle as well in the dry and better in the wet. they also have a wear rating that is more than double that of the RE040's. They are also about $40 cheaper per tire for 245x40 18's which will give you abetter ride. The larger size is the same diameter as the stock tires and will not affect your speedo calibration. I have over 10,000 miles on a set and am VERY pleased with them. I have had them rotated twice and they are still quiet. Personally, I would reccommend these over the Dunlops. People I know who have had them were not thrilled with them. When I was looking to replace my OEM tires, they would not recommend them.
