Tinted 8's

Hey guys!
Even though I have posted once (with no response at that ) I should introduce myself. My name is Jon and I currenty reside in Sunnyvale, CA. I drive a '05 stock brilliant black 8.

Now for the question...
I am going to tint my 8, but I have some questions...
The place I am going to use is Extreme Tint and Polish. They use MADICO film. Has anyone ever use Extreme T&P or MADICO film?
I am going to pay 200 bucks for an all around job. How dark should I tint?

Also, I would LOVE to see you pictures of tinted 8s so I can see how they look.

I enjoy the forum and look forward to hearing from you guys!

Jon

Welcome Jon!

Well here's what I did to my black 8. 15% all around. Lumar brand. I love it!

Another good shot. https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...45&postcount=2

There are quite a few threads on tint. If you wanna see just black 8's check out the "Calling all blacks" in the
RX-8 Multimedia/Photo Gallery section. Alot of them have tint

$135 comes with lifetime warranty. Had it done by a shop here in Orlando, took about 45 minutes to install. I am very please with the look and durability. I've only had one small bubble in it after they were done. Went back about a week later and they fixed it for me.

very nice shots there tiggerlee. can you get factory tint over in USA?? I'm not sure but I think all Japanese makes come with factory tint! or all the other ones I've seen here have it. but there are restrctions here for the front door windows..they cant be very dark at all. but the rear windows and glass can be as dark as you want. however, its a bit dangerous at night coz you cant see behind you if its too dark!!

what about the front windshield, i remember back in VA you could only get the top part tinted. im probably not going to even bother with the front

15% sounds good. good dark tint and hopefully not too dangerous at night

Yeah we have a small level of factory tint already. Not sure what the % it is though.

Funny you should mention this. I just posted about this a few days ago. The only time I wish I hadn't gone so dark is backing up at night in dimly lit areas. That's usually rare though.

I wouldn't recommend tinting the whole windshield.A few inches at the top is ok though.

At first it was odd driving at night with the dark tint but after awhile you get use to it.

32% is the most allowed all the way 'round here in Georgia, and in Illinois where I'm moving back to. I had it done with "Formula1", with the metallic finish (lightly reflective) and I LOVE it, I wouldn't trade my $355 tint job for anything cheaper... and I've seen a lot of those shitty ones out there.

Mine was done locally by the boys at "Custom Sun Control" here in Marietta, GA. If anyone locally is looking for a tint job, I *highly* recommend them, and I don't get paid or have any affiliation.

Cheers.

I would not tint the front windows.

A) looks good with out it.
B) It's against the law.
C) Safety, I like to see where I'm going all the time, especially at night. It's the other drivers I like to keep an eye on.

a) I think having tint in the back and none in the front looks awful.
b) It really depends on where you live on what percentage tint you install. Look up the laws in your state.
c) Again, it really depends and on what percentage tint you get. I have 35% all the way around. I like it but sometimes I wish I went a little darker.

I haven't had any safety issues, in this 8, or my last 8 (same %, but car was black)... I have gotten 1 ticket for it (I deserved it, and I didnt get the ticket for doing the 20 over I should have, instead got the ticket for the windows)...

And IMO, leaving the front windows untinted looks terrible.

I got mine done here in Atlatnta, for $190, but put nothing on the windshield. That would have been a few bucks more. Georgia allows 6" of tint on the windshield, but I am tall, and it ends up being in my line of sight, and I don't like it. I got Lumar film, supposed to be one of the best out there, 20% on the front windows, and 15% on the other three. I love it, I have no trouble backing up at night, but I generally stay away from unlit areas at night, call me chicken.

The only thing I don't like, is that headlights behind me, now show up across the entire height of the rear window, almost like sunbursts on a shiny object in the sun, it has to do with the embedded elements in the window for the radio antennae, and the rear window defroster. I knew it would do this, I have had it happen before. But that is my only problem, and I deal with it.

its been posted before, but oh well.

IMHO, Valpac's tinting chart is what should guide your decision. The blackest black looks great, but it might cause problems with night driving. (if you have an accident that could be attributed to the tint, you might be paying for a LONG time!) I would have liked to have darker tint, but decided to go with the allowable % in my state - WI. My tint installer said he would install darker, but if I get stopped and cited for dark tint, it would be my cost to have it removed and replaced with the legal tint. I've read that many cops, especially state troopers, have a light meter that can determine the % light transmission on the spot. Thus, it's pretty hard to fight the citation. I guess it depends on how much you want to gamble and how many $ you have to spare!

Exactly. I'd guide my decision on whether I want the hassle/ticket. Oh, yes. Night driving safety is important, too

That's a good link for tinting laws. Here's another that goes into a little more detail:

I have reallyi dark on the back, rear quarters a bit lighter then not much on the driver. thats factory tint JDM. I think the car suits tint and it saves your interior wear

So two days ago some Mother Fu*****s!!! smashed my drivers window at work and stole my radar detector Which brings me to a question. Can you get tint that holds together when smashed with a hammer or punch.

I'm sick of this **** that the second time that windows been broken with people trying to steel ****

in california you can have as dark as you want behind the front 2 windows and theres "supposed" to be nothing on the front windows except a i believe 6" strip you can have on the windshield so if you do tint the front 2 windows dont get them too dark on my old car i got pulled over a few times for it

from that website of regulations i guess its 4" on the windshield and 70% on the 2 front but depends where you go some places the cops are ******
