tint on rx8
just to let everyone know, if you want your car to look even all around, get it darker in the back. the angle of the back window makes it look lighter.
i am getting my tint redone, and was wondering. whether i should stay ceramic or not.
i'm hearing many different "myths" and would like a strong answer.
i've heard that metallic appears darker, and that ceramic appears darker. which appears darker, or is it the same.
metallic will interfere BARELY so its not worth getting ceramic.
and i need an opinion. 20% is a bit too light, 5% is too noticeable (or is it)...what do i do?

Nebraska has pretty stringent laws on tint. My old Audi had 15% all the way around which was pretty damn dark and I never got pulled over for it. My dad got me tinting for my 8 as part of a birthday gift and wouldn't let me go darker than legal so I have 25% up front and 20% on the rear windshield and windows. It's dark enough for me. Can't see in at night and you can't see much during the day.
I'd recommend not going much darker than legal.

If legal on the fronts is 25% (just an example), i would go 30%. Dont give cops a reason to pull u over. Plus, if the legal is 25 and you get 25, you have decent chance of the cop's tint meter registering ur tint a hair over and will nail you. Going 5% more will just ensure you legality and its not that noticeable. Normally the cops dont give a crap about the big rear window or even the small suicide door windows due to being so small, cops normally dont even think they are "functional" or detrimental to vision.

5% over?
lol, in maryland you'd have to have 40% all the way around then. and whats the point of that?
i just keep my sunroof open. (the interior sliding thing.) that lets more light into the cabin and makes the tint seem not so dark. when closed however, it looks like my car was tinted far darker.

wow wow wow thank you for that.
i might consider 5% with leaving my sunroof opoen during the day haha yeah 20% is no prob, officer said as long as i can see what you're doing you'll be fine, or if you don't give us a reason to pull you over you'll be fine.

Dang, 20% is too light? I live in Florida and I still think that's about as dark as I'd be comfortable with. I had 20% on a previous car and I had to roll down my windows to back into my garage at night. Nobody could see more than a silhouette inside either.

yeah, 5% up front is asking for it in CA.
I've got 5% on all the rear windows and I think it's 15 or 20% up front. Even that is pushing it

HAHA, that reminds me of the thread where some chick (I think it was a girl) got all super pissed that the cops towed her car.
We later found out she had the whole front windshield tinted. You guys remember that thread?!

Yea no ****, i searched the other day about the law in Cali and read that 70% was the legal limit. I mean, getting that light of tint would hardly be worth it anyways but still....Cali just sux *** when it comes to emissions/vehicle laws. I heard (read it somewhere) Cali was on its way to even stricter emissions laws as well.

just find a totalled 8, buy the front 2 windows off it. You'll never have to take the tint off, just swap out the glass for the inspection.
I know of at least ONE cool guy who did that.
