Get rid of the Gayman! The only real Porsche worth having is a 911.

Still trying to get the R3

Well you can see my Cayman Here and it has the power of an S model .My reason for wanting to go back to the RX-8 is strictly Financial .I do not owe very much on my Cayman and Need the $$$ I owned a mortgage Co here in WA and we closed doors about a year ago and Guess who was on the Hook for over 80K in Contracts/Leases Yes Me so At this point I need the $$ so driving an R3 is deffinately a step down from my cayman.I have owned both and The cayman is simply Awsome to drive and i get about as much attention as a Stripper in in a convertable trust me. I originally went in to the dealer (Barrier) who gave me only 19K 2.5 years ago for my 18K mile RX-8 (Ripped Off again)wanting to buy a 911 but after seeing and driving both cars the Cayman was an easy choice. The 911 looks dated compared to the Cayman and Handels better.I did read a thread on the Caymanclub forum about some RX-8's having very close Track handeling capabilities as the Cayman and 911 (Proven Videos) and the RX-8 seems to have GREAT Resale value !! I see 04 and 05 lower mile cars for 18 to 20K? whats up with that? There is a guy in oregon that has a Shinka with a turbo for under 20K with 37K on it .Now thats a great Deal and Car .The RX-8 is no slouch guys check out the Gt-Cup Racing Its right there in the Mix . http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/a...lots-mods.html

Not as much of a step down as you think. Pick up the latest issue of Motor Trend and witness how they picked the RX8 over the 911 Turbo In terms of handling. I can scan the article if need be

i thought you said you needed money? mods drain money. and rx8s dont have great resale value. i bought my 05 gt, red w/ red/black interior with under 20k miles for 20k last may. i'd be lucky if i got 14k for it now.

and to all the real men drive 911s bullshit haters. i have news for you. the cayman is a better platform than the 911. stick the 911 motor in it and you have a car that is superior to the 911. mid-engine cars are just better. why do you think the rx8 handles so well? same reason why the cayman is such an awesome car. the 911 has its entire engine falling off its ***.

I love the Cayman.

I think it's damn gorgeous.

I started a thread a while back claiming that the 8 is comparable to the base Cayman in velocity and handling.

Both have 50/50 weight distribution, and the compact rotary motor in the 8 further balances the 8's chassis for sublime handling.

I am biased, though. I think that the 8 is the best value among sports cars in the world today. You're simply not going to find a better handling car at anywhere near the price of the 8, and the lack of torque can be compensated for by keeping the revs up in most applications - as a bonus, the ride in the 8 is more than tolerable as a daily driver - it's actually borderline comfortable, IMO.

Going a peg (or maybe several pegs up) in power, I'd have to seriously tip my hat to the Corvette Z06.

I read that Mazda targeted the late base Cayman for the R3 modifications. The R3 is intended to be superior on a technical course. The evidence is still to be published however.

I love that Cayman. So much, that I photographed one at the Fort Worth Auto Show this year. She's a looker, especially in the orange color. However, my preference still remains with the 8 because I like having a little more metal around me than the Porsche. That Cayman is awfully small.

Wink Nice

This is all great Info.. I still think the RX-8 Has great resale .I paid $54,000 for my cayman plus tax so almost 59K Put about 14K In to it so I am in the car 72K and after 2 years Its only worth maybe 40K ?s,some dealers only want to give me 35K now thats just tanking!!! .You buy a Porsche to own a Porsche ..not to have the fastest car on the block .I like the RX-its because its different then all the rest of the non european cars. But talk about SMALL ever sit in a S2K ? wow ..a very cheap cvcc plastic feel ,now thats a car that dissipoints me ....RX-8 = best sports car for the $$$

Yeah maybe you're right. I just surfed through that 6speedonline web site and saw few pics of the Cayman S. Maybe it isn't as small as I thought. Hmmm.....

You're not gonna get anything for your mods even by selling it private. Especially it is a Porsche not some Honda products.

he cayman is simply Awsome to drive and i get about as much attention as a Stripper in in a convertable trust me.
certainly something I wouldn't want to be associated be.

Keep the Cayman is the best choice. Or part our the parts to some other Cayman owners.

You'll start to realize this the more you deal with high volume dealers. (I'm not talkin Porsche, BMW, Mercedes here) Before when times were good they just loaded up their personnel with basically any dumbass who came in the doors with an application. Now that times are really tough on the auto industry I'm hoping they start to sort out the retards that work at them. Of course, the dealer I worked at happened to have the biggest retards running the place so all the good people were getting fired. It gets to the point where you don't even want to deal with a car dealer anymore. Welcome to the advent of internet auto sales.

i'm sure someone else has said this, but why not try to unload your porsche on a porsche club or forum? your mods may actually be worth some $ there. you're basically guaranteed to lose money if you sell your porsche to a dealer. and if you trade your porsche for something w/ less value, do you expect the dealer to pay you the difference? i'm assuming your cayman is in pristine shape and tastefully modified. if so, you should have no trouble getting some decent money back by selling it to another porschephile who'll also take good care of the car

in any case, i say ditch the porsche. i hate porsches cayman/boxsters i don't mind as much, but still hate them if you have the means, get in an r3. it'll be slower than your cayman, but it'll at least be just as good dynamically

This might sound a little poor in taste but I sometimes think about when I had my 04 RX-8 and never had a NOSE in the air feeling that I was some kind of A-Hole above the rest of the society .I Love cars ,but I do not like the Badge that you get when owning a Porsche .As a musician I should have known better ..Life is Art .. Money and a status symbol car do not make you happy ,I am living proof .Thanks for all your kind words guys .Still trying to strike a deal... AARRR

ok jagger bomb this is my opinon prior to my 8 i used to drive around my dads Porsche Boxter before he got rid of it. it was fun and all but honestly i think the rx8 would be a better choice.
IMO the rx8 handles just as well and looks better in its unique kind of style. its a more enjoyable ride because to me the Porsche felt kind of boring after long drive.

Not to threadjack, but...any pics of the modded Cayman? We at Europrojektz are always interested in recruiting new members.

Cayman to an RX-8 is a downgrade IMO.
