Thinking of an RX-8, have a request

Hey everyone. I have been a rotary owner for a little over a decade and have had many (too many) RX-7's. I also am an avid Mazda fan in general, I currently own a 99 Millenia, 89 626 GT turbo 5 dr, and of course, a 90 GXL with a TII swap.

This year, me and the wife are planning on having a baby. This of course means she wants a new car. We were looking around at Audi, BMW, and although she likes the Mazda 6, I wouldn't buy one unless it is a Mazdaspeed. The other day she pipes up and says "I would be happy with an RX-8 too, if a child seat fits in it." Well, I did a little searching on Google and here, and could only find one picture of a child seat in an 8.

Does anyone have, or could take some pics of an RX-8 with a rear facing child seat and a forward facing seat in them?

This would be very beneficial to my cause of keeping it in the Rotary family!!

I know it seems a little silly that we would be looking for something else since we have 4 door sedan, a 5 door sedan and also a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee. But, all of these cars have well over 100K and of course no warranty. Plus, she likes the idea of a newer car. Also, the 626 is being restored as a track toy, the 7 is my personal toy, and the Jeep will be retired to dog hauling duty. So that leaves the Millenia as my DD.

Thanks guys and gals.

I have a 3 yr old and keep a forward facing in mine and it works out pretty good, you have to keep the passenger seat moved forward a little bit but over all it works out! I'll take a picture later tonight and post it on here for you.

Mazda even has a upholstery matching factory child seat, available by special order from Japan.

And yes you fit any conventional car seat in the car. There is actually more room in the back seat of a RX-8 than the brand new BMW 3 series coupes.

Off topic, but I had an 88 626 sedan(blue) Turbo GT. Really loved that car until someone cracked it up for me! Lots of torque steer, but was fun as hell. Got a pic of it around here somewhere..........I'll see if I can find it. Oh.......my kids are older, but a child seat will work. Actually the first 30 pages of the manual seem to be about that subject!

Hey hey, Icemark!! A familiar face from the 7club!!

Thanks for the links, half of them I have seen. The wifey wants pics to convince her. I am hoping she is happy. Now I need to start looking for a white RX-8. ALL of my cars are white (it was fate, never searched).

Mazurfer- I love the 626. It was given to me by a good friend who drove it all through college. It sat in his garage on jackstands for about 2.5 years! Finally, he bought a motorcycle and his wife said it had to go. He had it dropped off by a flatbed as a surprise for my b-day. All I need to do is get the brakes back in order (have all the parts, but I can be lazy) and change out the HLA's. If I could find a nice white 323 GTX I would be in Mazda late 90's nirvana!!

OK, I looked at the pic in the last link. Brilliant!! She is content with that. The only real issue she brought up is the fact that the passenger seats has to be so far forward to fit it. We are both 6 ft+. I then explained to her that if we all were traveling somewhere, the Millenia or Jeep would be used.

We are going on test drives this coming weekend.

the passenger seat has a lot of room. even with the seat forward a bit i dont see it as uncomfortable.

While looking at the car, take out the maunaul and give it a quick read through about placement of the child seat. Either that or PM me your E-mail and I'll send you the complete manual in pdf format. so you can look at it. It will be an 05, but should be very much the same.

Great! Thanks everyone.

The only REAL problem I can see if we buy it.....I will be here as much as the 7club! Which means I will get nothing accomplished at work. Lol. Also, I will not be able to leave it alone. Ugghh.....another toy.
