Why won't people just provide the answer? :p

I personally don't know what that is. Just wanted to vent.

Pumps air into the exhaust at warm-up, to light off the catalyst as quick as possible.

Sounds like one of those Dustbuster vacuums - if you hear it run for more than one minute at startup, there could be a problem.

(trivia - look at the sign on the wiring connector - check out who made the pump?)

That's what it is....the air pump.
Did you not click on the attachment in the 2nd reply from Spin9k that explained what it was?
And.....StealthTL also told you what it was and what it does.

If you don't believe what people tell you and show you, why did you bother to ask in the 1st place?

I knew it was an air pump but I had no idea what it was for.

What exactly do you mean by "light off the cat" ?

It takes a couple of minutes for the cat to get to operating temperature. Until that time, pollutants flow past. The air pump sends regular air into the exhaust stream. This speeds up the heating process in the cat and cuts the time when it isn't operational.

Now it makes sense. It speeds up the time it takes for the cat to warm up.

Cool, thanks!

Is there an advantage to unplug the air pump?

I read somewhere that a guy disconnected it on purpose but never said why.

That "guy" is unknownautoxer or what ever his name is, with the Trash Bag in his Vatar, He was on the track and trying to save weight. He took a lot of things off his car that day lol
PM him for more info or check out the racing section.
