Thinking about buying....
Hi Guys,
Yesterday I test drove an RX8 (130). Was really impressed. I've recently sold my MINI Cooper S and am now driving a Golf GT TDI but I need something to put the fun factor back into my driving.
Really I just need talking into it!!
The only negative point I can see really is the fuel consumption figures as I do about 20000 miles a year. How does it work in reality? I used to get on average 23-ISH mpg from the Cooper S - mixure of town/motorway driving. I get between 35-40mpg from the Golf, but that's pretty irrelivant as it gives up at 4500rpm and is generally boring.
The only other things really is I need recommending to a decent insurance company. I'm 19, 2 years NCB.
Also is the sat nav any good? I currently have a tom-tom but I'm interested in the integrated nav system.
Many thanks
Jase

Fuel isn't that bad, really. You just have to keep in mind that the car is VERY particular about how you drive it. If you cruise gently with only periodic bursts of speed, you'll get something like 20-24 mpg. But, if you're on the gas all the time, you can lower that to 17-15. Other cars in this Weight/HP class are pretty much the same, so it's no better or worse than a piston engine in that regard. And I've put on just about 30,000 miles in the past year, myself. It's really not bad at all.
Insurance is actually really cheap. The small engine, combined with the fact that it's a 4-door, really lowers the cost there. I'm only paying about $140 a month myself for full coverage (through AIG).
Unfortunately, I have no info on the Nav system... One option I REALLY wish my car had.
Good luck if you decide to purchase!

Fuel mileage can be very bad in an RX-8 there are people on this board who get as low 10 -13 mpg and Mazda will do nothing for them. The car is great and some people get good mileage by this car’s standers 16 to 19mpg but there is no telling what your car will get. So be prepaid for really bad mpg.
