Things to know before I buy

Not sure if this belongs here, but the layout of this forum confuses me a little. Anyway. . .

I'm considering trading my 99 Subarau Impreza RS in for a newer year Mazda RX-8. I've been getting a lot of mixed reviews on the various dangers of owning an RX-8 (Mainly the Apex Seal). If there is alreay a thread for this please point me in the right direction if not I'd like to hear from real RX-8 owners on the cost of owning one.

I recently test drove a '08 RX-8 and fell in love with it, so I want to make sure I'm not buying a money pit

Don't hold back, if I have to replace an Apex Seal every 6 months I want to here about it. Fire away.

Thanks in advance!

It's not the apex seals that usually fail. Whoever told you that doesn't know anything about the car. When they redesigned the 13b and made it with side exhaust port, the side seals took a lot more brunt than before, so they can fail more easily. But nothing close to every 6 months.

Either way, do your research. I read for a few months before I decided to get one.

When I bought the car in 07, I never knew it was a different kind of an engine. I never heard about a rotary engine before, and I was surprised about it. Anyway, as others already said, read the stickies and follow the procedures, good luck.
