I just recently moved to Germany with my 8 and am looking for snow tires right now. I saw the Blizzaks recommended in this thread and also read the winter thread, which mentioned getting steel wheels. Are the steel wheels necessary with snow tires? I'm from Florida, so I've never had this concern before. :[

My 8 will stay parked under the car cover just as always. No winter driving for me. My Grand Cherokee and Explorer Sport will get worked out this winter.

Steel wheels aren't necessary, they're just cheaper than even cheap aluminum wheels usually. Plus, they're just black painted steel, so you don't really have to worry about cleaning them, salt ruining them or curbing them.

I figure after the winter we just had in Jersey how much worst could it get LoL.
I don't mind driving it either and it can get to be pretty sporty out there with a good snow storm.

First winter with my 8. I have a set of winter wheels/tires for it (shameless plug: have an extra set for sale in classifieds) and unless I can find a killer deal on a reliable beater, I'll likely be driving the 8...and praying for a very mild winter.

Likely just sticking with the stock wheels then. It's going to be an experience, since all the roads here are windy and up and down hills.. Does the 8 handle well in snow?

I am in South Dakota, this will be my first winter with the 8, but have never had a 'special winter vehicle.' People here aren't afraid of snow...

Quick question regarding this topic. Like most, this will be my first winter in the 8 as well. Getting blizzaks and im gna buy my buddy's g35 rims . One question though, where do you guys redline in the winter ? Or is it okay not to redline for a whole season ? Searched but nothing came up regarding redlining.

hahaha. I have a GS hence the no DSC, I redline more than ever around most corners. Get some quality WINTER tires and it's very fun, it has made driving like a maniac in the summer that much more comfortable.

Well, not on snow obviously, but hopefully at least some roads are cleared regularly in your area. Just make sure it's fully warmed up, so give it like 20 minutes of running before revving out.

true, my 8 takes a while to warm up in the cold. longer than my wife's mazda 3

Even on those rare five days out of the year when the temp dips below 32 degrees, I plan on driving the 8.

Even when it snows, drive your car to a clear area, turn the wheel and redline it! ...and go round, and round! Just don't forget about soaked brakes (from the snow) when you are done enjoying the O's and 8's.

This will be my first REAL winter with my 8. Moved from Florida to New Jersey. No snow tires...I'm gonna run on my Yokohama All-Seasons. It should be interesting.

No snowdriving experience + allseasons + driving in a snowstorm in jersey = gameover
allseasons are not recommended. I tried it for 1 week than got winter tires. I have 14 years of driving in the snow in my old turbo ford ranger and tt 94 rx7 and 1 in the 8 and driving with allseasons in a sport car is dangerous.
