test drove the rx 8 first time

i test drove the RX 8 the other day!! i was impressed by the handling.. an thee feel of the raod it gave mee... a nice quick car when driven right.. i drove the 6speed manual.. i ve been driving stick all my life.. which is 6 years now.. never owned a auto haha the salesman was really impressed with my quick shiftingg an down shifting.. i really had fun wit the car!! no doubt.. i like the interior too... nice learther an very comfortable... i feel like it was a tab bit underpowered though for a 30 g car... i would love to get this car.. i may wait though. hopefully they come out wit a turboed rx 8 in the next 2 years or someting alil more wit more go. love the 9k redline.. the salesman said i could redline at 10k haha i dont tink sooo.. but yeah i shoulda tried that in front of him an see wat woulda happened! :D haha... great car though!! some thing i may look into getting... its nice an roomy love the space in the rear seats.. i wouldnt want too drive passengers around.. but if i needed to put a bag or some junk back there it wouldnt be too bad.. i m lookin to get a new car some time soon.. but after a year an a half.. right now i m in the army... after i get out of here i ll be ready to purchase a second vehicle once i get back home to california. i ll keep checkin up on the rx 8 and i m sure all you owners really enjoy this vehicle.. it fit like a glove.. shifted well.. amazing car.. thought i d jus share wit u guys. thanks

stock was awesome too.. very easy too shift no doubt.. and quick an short... very easy to get used to for a experienced manual driver.. haha the salesman bs ed mee alot i think.. i didnt pay attention half the time!

1. he said u can redline at 10rpm haha is this true? yeah right i m pretty sure its 9k accordin toe the rpm gauge cluster i took it up to bout 8 or so on the test drive..almost 9 i think..
2. he said its neck an neck with the nissan Z on a straight away? dependin on the driver he said... not to sure about that one either.. i would think the Z would take the rx 8
3. it was a black 6speed manual with leather an sunroof.. i believe the grand touring package.. he said he could get it for me at 500 over invoice... aint shoped around much yet.. sound like a good deal or not? or could it go less ... they said there tryin to get rid of there 05 models now. since its end of year almost an the 06s should be coming in.
4. he said there are no changes to the 06 model so no point waiting for the 06 because he wont be able to cutt the same deal on it as with the 05s .
5. he said gas mileage is good for a sports car... he said around 20 in the city.. an close 28 to 30 on free way miles.. accordin these forums i ve read alot of u guys get between 15 to 18 in the city.

haha so yeah i m doing my hw before i get into anything.. i have learned alot of salesmen dont know ish about the cars they sell!

Well--the RX8 is slightly slower than a 350Z stick--the 350Zs are pulling 1/4mi times 14.0-14.5sec. The best I've seen an 8 do in the 1/4 is 14.4--typically they are >14.5. Turboed 8s are a touch faster than 350Zs though. Of course depending on driver.

glad you enjoyed the car. I can't believe you're only 6 years old!

1. 9K is the redline
2. Total crap. The 350Z is pretty faster at any speed. Much closer to the Infiniti G35 (350Z with a few hundred pound added on).
3. Invoice +$500 might still be a bit high. Shop around.
4. Nobody knows the answer to this one. Doesn't sound like anything major though.
5. Again total crap. You are really looking around 18-20 mpg in mixed driving.

Honest answers here. No BS salesman trying to sell you something. I am in LA. If you comeback to Cali. & you want to drive a turboed RX8 with the RP short shifter drop me a PM. Overall it is great car.

1. 9K is the red line though, the engine can take 10K rpm (if you downshift wrong). it just not intended to go that high. you'll hit fuel shut off at like 9.1K rpm I think. Not disagreeing with you, just wanted to quote you for #2. :D

2) The 350Z is faster at any speed? That sounds funny. If both the RX-8 and the 350Z are going at 60mph, is the 350Z faster? Hehe, I'm just jokin'. The 350Z is faster, but you can probably take him on a track as long as he doesn't know how to push his car to the limit (from what I hear it's easy to use the RX-8 to its full potential, while it's hard to do it with the Z...). The Z will definitely beat the RX-8 in a straight line provided equal skill drivers. Of course the difference is small enough that you'll beat Z drivers if you're better than them.

5) yeah the dealer is so flat out wrong. The lucky ones get 19/25. I think most people get like 16/22. The really unlucky ones get like 10/16. You're most likely going to get 16/22 though or around 18-19mpg mixed if you don't push your car all the time.

But hey fanman... how is the turbo + short shifter? is it considerably faster? and what kinda gas mileage do you get with the turbo?

WAY faster, especially in the midrange. If you want to take a drive. Let me know (since you are in So. Cal.). Mileage is a little worse, not too bad. I used to get about 200 miles to the tank in mixed driving. I get about 185-190 for the tank.

wow awesome. i'll consider taking you up on that offer sometime. but i'm afraid if i experience it, i'm going to want it. haha. do you know how around much hp you gained? and how much did it actually cost you (parts plus installation if you didn't do it yourself).

you seem to be getting crappy mileage though. i hope you're pushing the limits of your car when you drive it... i'm disappointed in my mileage and i get like 250 miles before the light goes off (though i granny drive it normally).
