Switchblade remote update

Ok so i recieved my newoem switch blade remote from ebay today for my 2004 non switchblade rx8, well so far it works i programmed two remotes, the new switch blade and a new oem remote for the 04 rx8 b/c mine died. WORKED LIKE A CHARM! So now I just have to go get the key cut on the blade then have mazda program it b/c I only have one key for my mazda but i did a DIY on it, I dont know if anyone has done it but i did so heres the link https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...46#post2315746

Nice. Where are you gonna get the key cut?

I would pick someplace that specializes in this so they don't screw it up. I wouldn't trust a place like Wal-mart as they have had to recut numerous keys more than once cause they didn't work.

just talked to my mazda dealer and its gonna cost me 60 dollars to cut and program it! sweet!

I went to a local locksmith and they cut it for me just fine for a buck.

Cutting is the easy part. Usually it's free or a couple of bucks. Programming the key at the dealership costs the big dollars (unless you have 2 keys already).

when i called the dealer to see if they would cut my key and program it, b4 he new i had my own key right off the bat he was like well the key is 275 dollars! what a mark up i bought mine for 45....... its unbelievable

good news! my co-worker knows the top guy at a dealer service center that also services mazda. he can get him to program my key for $66. so, i just bought mine off at transponder island on ebay. can't wait to have it. i almost gave up getting this key...

quick question?? where do u guys buy an un cut key?? cuz i just ordered my remote from ebay as well it looks excalty like the pic aabove!!

yup ebay for 45 shipped! my mazda is also cutting and programming for 65, thats b/c i made friends w/ the tech manager Im actually thinking about ordering another one just so i can have two, then ill also be able to program the second myself since il have two keys

all the keys I see on Ebay are for 05, 06 and 07. Does this still work w/ the 04?

Yes if you look i have an 04. the reason it says 05 + is b/c they didnt make an oem switchblade key for the 04. but it they will fit on the 04 thats the whole point in buying them so the 04 owners can have the switchblade

i was gonna order my extra set of keys from mazda before and i bet they'd be giving me the fob key set. good thing i saw this thread. i also have an 04.
