Sunroofs
Is it just me, or does the sunroof on the RX8 suck? I liked the clean look on my G35C but the RX8's aftermarket looking, popped out when open sunroof totally ruins the lines of the car. Oh well, maybe they didn't have the room due to the curves on the roof.

One thing I like about it is that when it is open people know you have one. It is not hidden.
I picked up my son a football practice and I had to park for a moment. I rolled the windows and slid the roof back and the high school kids absolutely went nuts. My son had the biggest grin I had ever seen on his face. It was almost as big as mine

Momentum Keeps Me Going
I think it cuts down on sunroof wind noise, and it does look like a spoiler to me, just pushes down in the middle!
Besides, just nudging the 1st switch back and forth and only opening the sunroof an inch or two gives a great 'back of your neck' downwind. Amazing!

I disagree about the wind noise. It's quite a bit louder than my old Prelude's sunroof.
I inadvertently entertained a whole schoolbus full of kids when I opened the Prelude's roof a couple of years ago.

I like it
I think it looks cool with it showing....on my Mazda Protege5 you can barely see it when it's tinted open.....I always wished you could see it! My 8 should be here in October!

I rather have a pop out sunroof with a functional rear seat of the RX then losing a good 3-4 inches of rear headroom because of the G35c's sloping roof and retracting sunroof design.
Besides I like the pop out design. Suits me fine.

I know most auto manufacturers put sunroofs/moonroofs that open hidden on their upper end cars. Even though the 8 is Mazda's upper end car, it would be impossible without really damaging headroom.
Just curious, but did the Millenia have a moonroof that opened hidden?

Stuck in a love triangle
Aftermarket..
Do you guys think it would be dumb if I got an aftermarket sunroof put in? I would want the exact same sunroof that comes with the touring and gt package. Would it be something as easy as just tearing offthe regular roof on my sports package rx8 and replacing it with the one that hasa sunroof plus doingall the wiring? Can all of that be done for a fairprice?

I have a feeling that if you want the exact same sunroof, it will not be cheap especially with labor and other parts needed. Can't answer whether it would be a fair price. It would depend on how much it is, how much you are willing to spend to want one. You might have to buy a new headliner too, but I'm not sure of that.

Just my opinion - I have the roof on my 8, but didn't have it on my 94 Probe GT. I would never cut into the roof of a car I liked. Plus the 8's sunroof starts so far back- the driver barely sees it (from the rear seats it is nice!)
I say enjoy your car and the extra headroom you get without the SUnroof.

Bottom feeder
i don't like mine. It's friggin ugly. It should have been hidden like the higher-end autos. This one is a "cheap" implementation, IMO.
Sun/moon roofs aren't something I perfer anyway.. I would have opted to not pay for it if given the choice, but unfortunately it comes with the Grand Touring package.
I'd swap roofs with anyone who wants one, if only it were possible

I think it looks great. Well thought out design, the way it bends in the roof. Rich, tailored, high-end look to it. This is my third moon roof and it does all the tricks I would want it to. Easy to use and the sliding cover (inside) is a nice touch.
Cruising around the other night, I had it fully opened. Went to see our fire department showing off a new ladder pumper. There through the open moon roof I saw the sprays of water, the moon in the background creating a small rainbow. Now that's a moon roof.

A friend of mine had a 95 Eclipse and had an aftermarket sunroof put in, (the dealer can do it as well). He paid approx 1500 in all to have it done. He did have a leak problem, It dripped when it rained real hard. It is a matter of cutting the roof and altering the headliner, so pick someone with a very good reputation. Or talk to the dealer. Just my 2 cents

great roof. I noticed some other cars have a very simialr pop top too. It DOES look like a spoiler - ok it IS A SPOILER!
The millennia's roof did not open out but the wind vacuum was unbelieveable at speed without a deflector and they ARE UGLY.
