The buy back program would be great if they bought the car for the same price you paid for it. But I'm sure these are just dealers assuming people are stupid and won't understand what a "trade-in" is.

I haven't had that happen but when I was in there last one of the sales guys was all "Come see what we just got in!" like an excited kid! I wasn't doing anything in particular and have talked with this person several times over the years so I followed him and he was showing off their new CX-7 with the touch screen radio/navigation in it. It was pretty funny how excited he got over it. He told me it would look great next to my RX-8 in the driveway.

Dealers make bank on both the net profit AND the financing. You trading in your car means they 1) sell the trade for a ridiculous rate to someone who doesn't qualify for "new car" financing 2) make cash on that financing 3) sell you a new car, make money on that, and 4) make money on the financing*

*if you finance through them.

Marketing, pure and simple. There's likely some factory incentive on whatever car they'd try to get you into, hence the "ever so generous" employee discount.

They offered to buy back my old red 323! Something about needing used cars! After I finished rolling on the floor, I told them they must have reached a new depth of despiration as, at that time, my neighbors kids had just finished shredding the old roof lining and had pulled out the rubber weather stripping. No one would ever consider buying that car! I complimented their dementia, repaired the 323 and kept it. Bought the new 8, about 6 months later but I am still keeping the old 323 to haul the 3 little bad boys, alfalfa bales, and trash - don't want to use the 8 for that! Besides, I like the plates that go on the 323 - they have barb-wire trim!

Oi I got one of them "Used Car Buy Back" aparently my Mazda Dealer "Is offering 120% Market Value!". I just bought the damn car about 3 months ago oi.. I aint sick of it yet by a long shot.. though upgrading to a 05 or 06 for a 6speed a/t or even sucking it up and learning manual do seem tempting but I still owe 12k to Chase and I just know I'd get the shyt end of the stick since I do own a 04 base rx-8.

Grrr I better hide this from my family if they see this they might force me to do this lol.
