Strange buzzing noise from under car

I think maybe a heat sheild is loose or something. At certain rpms / engine load the car hits the right frequency to cause a buzz / rattle from underneath. It sounds "tinny" so I suspect a heat sheild.

Anyone else have this problem, and knows where to look?

Thanx in advance,
Chrisbert

I think I have the same noise! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one and I have no idea of what it is either!

There is a recall for a heat shield. It becomes cracked and vibrates loudly at a certain RPM. It looks like this is your problem.

Its actually on the transmission. They call it a Dynamic damper heat insulator.....fancy name for heat shield.

Recall

Has anyone who has had the heat shield and additional insulation noticed a significant reduction in heat coming up through the transmission into the passenger compartment/cut holder area?

Hi Girls & Guys too;
I purchased new "8" about 4 month ago and it have been at the warranty dealer over 3 times due to the same gridding sound under the car. At first, mazda told me that was the torque converter that was loose, they apparently fix it. But a few days after I got the same sound under the car again. It usually does it when I reach 5 to 6000 rpm. I left the car again at the dealer and it have been over 2 weeks and haven't heard from them. As soon as I receive my car back I will let yu gusy know what happend.

Your car has been at the dealers for two weeks and no word? I would be at the dealer at first light raising hell.

I have the same problem! I get a tingy sound as well between 3k and 4k on 3rd - 6th gear. I'm gonna take it to the dealer this wekeend and have them replace the heat shield. I've been driving it for about a week and a half...I hope this won't cause any serious problems. Just today, the same sound has been coming up between 6k and 9k on 2nd gear... For the record, I drive a 6MT and the sound seems to be coming from the right side of the ca.

mazda needs to train some more techs on the 8 so we as owners arent so inconvienced every time something little or big happens to the 8 im sure when the see one coming in they run. Im an assistant service writer at a toyota dealership and alot of those guys seem to want to hide when a prius comes in (hybrid electric\gas). they even have rubber suit and gloves they have to wear when working on the electrical part of the car due to the fact it can shock and possibly even kill you. crazy stuff but im sure thats whats going on with the 8s when they go in for problems.
