And...if I further think about it, I assume it's a manual transmission since you didn't mention. It's high on price, but we would need to know way more about it. You have a link to the dealership where it can be seen, or go back and ask very specific questions about what all it has. What is the body kit? What else is Mazdaspeed if anything(and verify). What color is the interior? Give us more to go on...tell us all that you know it has.

Go to KBB.com or Edmunds.com, feed in the info about the car (mileage, options, condition, etc.) and then check what the price SHOULD be from the dealer. Being an '06 with "body kits" leads me to believe that the car has the factory appearance package, which when new, is about a $1200 option or so. I trust it has leather, sunroof, premium sound, etc.
I'd check pricing for you, but without knowing a bit more about the car (tranny, nav, etc.), it probably wouldn't be accurate. If you want the car and they're asking too much, take a printout of the pricing with you and talk them down.

wow, screw that
3400 miles aint a new car no more.
Even with Full MS kit on, what does that have to do with me ?(buyer) I didnt ask them to put that on, Aftermarket parts means ZERO to buyers. Sure its nice to have them, but whenever you go shop for a car, you will only care about the car's actual price, how much *Crap* it has on is another thing.
so, if u ask me, I will pay them no more than 21K for everything.
Remember, you can get a BRAND NEW 07 for about 2-3K under invoice (Im not kidding!) Use those money plus a bit more that you saved to get a Brand new MS kit painted and install. it still probably be lower than 28K.

Not that price - that's a ripoff.
FYI the body kit adds NOTHING to resale value.

There aren't that many '07s left, but I would look for those, especially as '08s are rolling in. I'm in the process of getting an 07 GT with every option for 26k. Will be picking it up on Sat. The dealer in question was extremely helpful in locating a "new" 07 from a dealership in Oregon. He traded one of his Mazdas from his lot for this GT in Oregon with specific color I was looking for.
Actually 3 dealerships in my area were offering 07 Gt model for 26k. I just could not find the color I was looking for; there seems to be a lot of Galaxy Green leftovers. Black and Silver were most difficult to locate.
There's a $3,500 factory rebate you need to know about. I went into the dealership with my homework done about specs of models, msrp, invoice price etc. I guess if you know how to "talk" the car language, they're less apt to gouge you. So, 28k for an '06 w/ 3k miles is over-priced.

To add to the above. The manager at the Mazda dealership told me they make more money from "used" cars, such as the 06 model you are looking at, because of the factory rebate, $3,500, is not available on them. The 07s are still considered "new," thus, you are still eligible for this rebate. We did the math, in actuality, w/ this rebate '07 costs less than the used '06. This is the one of the secrets dealership hides from the consumers.

Hey....I was nice about it.....he just didn't really give us enough info. And I don't care what anybody says........we stiull can't tell if it's a good deal even at a high 28K without more info! I know you're not replying to me, but the person really should know that.

28k sounds like way to much for a used 8 to me, but I don't know what options are on it, nor am i inclined to do the actual math out on depreciation and everything, even if i had all the options on the car.
A new RX8 sport model costs around 28k, and then looses a 3rd of it's value the moment its off the lot. (so the saying goes) So paying 28k for a used one just seems wrong.

So you took the advice I gave you on the CR report? I have to say it saved me$$$
Congrats!

i had got my 06' 8 GT, with most of the opinions installed. It was used also, only had 6k miles on it when i got it, and got them to sell it to me for 21k. It had a spare tire kit with it, and the guy before me had put alot of effort in the car, from what i could tell. 28 seems way too high because here where i live, they had brand new 06's for 29-30k but they had like 5k off that price because they were trying to get rid of them.

But if I was looking for a used 8 and it had the MS kit on it ... that WOULD be a factor for me and I'd be willing to pay a bit extra because if I had to go out and order one (here in Canada) and have it shipped, painted, installed, it'd be pretty expensive. So when people say that aftermarket parts are not selling factors, I don't know, to me they are especially if they are high quality parts. Just my opinion.

It's not exactly hiding... It's all out there online. In fact the car business is abotu the most open of ANY big ticket Item. I challenge you to go to Best Buy and find out the true cost of that big screen TV you are going to buy. The funny part is, that there is more in profit on that then the average car...

I don't really check CR for their assessment of "enthusiast's" cars. However, if I need a refrigerator or toaster, I'll be sure to check their ratings. Btw, thanks for your advice on rebate.
