They a TSB for that I believe, you should be able to have them replaced by your Mazda Dealership. Mine were making noise too and got the rotors and brakes changed for free!

A careful reading of the TSB is in order. This repair applies to vehicles with VINs lower than JM1FE*****145826 and equipped with 18 inch wheels (12.7 inch diameter front discs), and specifically refers to front brake pads only. Since my front pad replacement I have had no further brake squealing.
Your situation may be different. Do a search on "brake + squeal" and you'll find a number of tips to quiet noisey brakes.

Had my 8 since July 2003 and have 12,000 miles on it and my rear wheels don't squeek. Does that mean that my RX-8 is not normal or that it is not imported (one of those RX-8s built in Louisiana right next to where they build the space shuttle external tanks :D ) ?

I think that he is giving you a line and that they should take the problem more seriously.

I think I know what he is referring to....I have 20k on the odo, and when I back up on occasion I hear an intermittant squeak or squeal from the rear of the car. I think that it is the right rear brake assembly, but I cant be sure. I have not had this checked yet. Does this sound more like what your hearing? My car does have the front brake squeal and m vin is low enough to use the TSB, my service guy told me to wait as long as I could to get all of the use out of the pads as possible. He said that the TSB is open for my car and they wont remove it....he said bring it in by spring.

My brakes don't squeak but sometimes after the car has set for awhile and I go to move it, I hear a loud pop like the brakes were locked and then the car will start to move. It's like the pads are engaged and have to be broke loose. I Can't get it to do this when I take it to the service dept. They did turn my front rotors because of uneven wear. I think they should have given me new rotors as the car only had 3000 miles on it.

the sqeeking appears half the time i hit the brake pedal. i bought this car thru honda dealer a month ago . i test drove it and heard no sqeeking but after a week i started to notice it. yes my vihicle vin no is indeed below what was posted and 18'" rims. i will bring my car to the dealer to get it inspected by next week and will make sure they aware of the mentioned TSB. u know some dealers are S###.
