Zero tickets since 8/25/03. Routinely drive 90+. Secret is a good radar detector and a quick brake foot. Warning--do not follow me closely at high speed--I brake hard. I also look at oncoming ramps and, when I'm entering the highway, I watch the existing traffic to make sure a cop doesn't get behind me and pace me. I also keep on eye out for planes and helicoptors using the symbols on the highway to measure speed. My first goal is not to get a ticket, second goal is to get where I'm going as fast as possible (safely, of course).

well as for me cop pulls me over doing 75 in 55. He comes to my window and says do you know what i am pulling you over for i simply shrug my shoulders. He then tells me that he first clocked me at 75 in the 55 zone and quickly after that he said i accelerated to 95. He was nice enough to tell me that i guess and only taged me with the 75mph ticket, that was my bad. While this dude is tellling me all of this he asks for my reg, and asks if i own the car. I do have to admit i was alittle scruffy that day and i wasn't wearing the best clothes. I couldn't find the damn thing so he tells me that if the car checks out under my name i only get a speeding ticket and i can go home. I was like you ***** ucker. I was pissed, but like i said its my fault, SLOW DOWN!!! :D

Got picked out of a crowd going 81 in a 55. Worst part was my V1 was in the mail and was waiting for me at my door when I got home. I'm fighting it, hopefully to get it knocked down a bit. Ticket is $260 and I just got an insurance discount too....

Talking My first post!

My first post! I think I got you all beat, but not in an RX-8. I was ticketed for 97 in a 55. But I was actually going 115. Hit the breaks in my Stealth! This was 12 years ago. It was the night before I wen't out on my first date with my wife and I was so broke I could barely afford the dinner bill! I was 18 and had no credit cards at the time, just the cash in my pocket. Man it's been a long time since I've had a car like that. I can't buy a ticket in my F-150. I do want to get a new sports car again, but I am building a house and have a baby on the way, so it'll be a year before I can buy. I did test drive one yesterday. Wow! I was very impressed. I thought it would have no torque, yet it was perfectly driveable at only 2000rpm, which is really low for a rotary. Well I am saving up for it, so hopefully one day, hopefully they don't raise the price much, sports car are still tough to sell in volumes, this one being a real 4 seater is it's saving grace for me. My wife has a Mazda 626, so we have our baby car. Anyway, I am way off topic here but I kinda wanted to introduce myself with this being my 1st post. I think I am decided on the RX-8, if the Mazdaspeed version doesn't steal too much of it's thunder. I can only afford the base 6-speed with NO options, and can barely afford that.

I had my car a day and a half before getting nailed for 70 in a 55. Ticket was only $75, but with court supervision it will total $191 OUCH! Sherrif talked to me about the car for 15 minutes, after writing the ticket. Had he talked first, I think I would have gotten out of it. He ended the conversation with, "I am the only one working from here to Virginia (where I live) and I am headed in the opposite direction." Since it was 11:00 at night, I told him I wasn't "planning on running too fast, since there are numerous deer on this road and I really don't need one sitting beside me!" I also told him I was running from 55 to 70, back to 55 again as I was trying to break the car in. I only had around 150 miles on it or so.

This is why youngsters like yourself should not be driving cars like the 8. All that does is skew statistcal data for the car and screw it up for veryone else.

Was doing 81 with my father following me (trying to keep up in his Taurus), had new PassPort on but State trooper had instant on radar, when Passport lit up I slammed brakes but he clocked me at 71 in a 55. Got my father too, he went from normal grumpy to very grumpy. Cost me $400 to get both tickets reduced to an equipment violation. By the way, this was on a four lane divided highway with no traffic, wouldn't go that fast with other cars around.:D :D

On who got the ticket soonest after getting the car:
> Prelude owner drives RX-8...and get's busted
He got a ticket on the test drive!

I drive the RX-8 slower than my previous Accord. I figure the RX-8's looks and rarity make it a target. My new speed guidelines are:
> 5 over the speed limit for x-way and highways
> Less than 10 over the speed limit on most other roads
> Speed limit or less for residential

I have driven by the state police on the x-way at +8 over and didn't get a ticket, but did get a look.

You would have a VERY HARD time doing that in a 6spd.
Your 4spd auto is made for that kind of driving...have fun:p ?

Oh Hoh! Not quite. I got pulled over in my highly mod'ed 91 MR2 Turbo (575 hp at the crank). I was racing a Mustang 5.0 supercharged on the 101 in the Conejo Valley (Southern Ventura county in cali). I kicked the crap out of it and quit looking at my speedo when I got to about 140 mph. I topped out somewhere around 160 mph. I had left this guy about 7 or 8 car lengths behind me by the time we got up to about 120 mph.

I was completely off the freeway and stopped at a light on a hill at the top of the off ramp when I saw the CHP flying up the freeway. He saw me turned on his lights hitting the breaks and pulled in behind me. I was facing about 6 or 7 charges including reckless driving, reckless endagerment, excessive speed (120+ mph since he couldn't clock me above the limits of his car), etc. They towed the car and impounded it (got it back the same day). I got an attorney right away and had all the charges reduced to just straight speeding at around $850 (which is better than the $8,500 and up to 6 months in jail I was facing).

Since then I have slowed down and I haven't been pulled over yet in my 8. Just once in my M3 for going 40 in a 30 zone.

Using MazdaMath(C) is that 267 HP at the wheels?

Mazda has reduced the HP several times and there's doubts that it correct now. 238 at flywheel and people are dynoing 170-180 IIRC, which appears to be a huge transmission loss. So I was joking that using MazdaMath 575 crank HP is 2** at the wheel.

That is funny but if I remember correctly we figured a 20% loss in the drivetrain so we were figuring somewhere around 450-460 rwhp :p . I loved that car but I never drove it that fast again after realizing the amount of destruction I could've caused at those speeds. But I do plan on a turbo upgrade in my 8 next year and want to see about 350+ hp.

82 in a 65 on saturday. Damn laser guns. Ticket was 120, but in Massachusetts those dinks in the statehouse also feel like it's necessary to tack on another 50 dollars for the "head injury fund"....yeah whatever. Ticket cost was 170 because of that bull. I hate this state!!! Wouldn't fining motorcylists and putting that money in a head fund make more sense since you have to wear a helmet in Mass. I was wearing my seatbelt, if i wasn't I can see the $25 fine for that going to a body injury fund or something.

a little diversion,

Here's a couple links related to "spirited driving"

http://www.ibiblio.org/rdu/sl-irrel.html

http://www2.deskmedia.com/~dev/speeding.phtml

http://www.ebaumsworld.com/speeding.shtml

http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm...s.quirkygaffes

http://www.mynrma.com.au/motoring/he...er/speed.shtml

http://www.safespeed.org.uk/speeding.html

http://www.saferoads.org/issues/fs-speed.htm

That last one is something you'd expect some government agency to tell you about speeding. They say things like "speed is a factor in 1/3 of all fatal crashes. Driving too fast for conditions and exceeding the posted limit are combined. The other articles should show that those are completely different offenses. The last article also ignores cases in which the posted limit was exceeded, but the main factor was something else -- putting on makeup, shaving, or eating cereal perhaps.

I got my 8 just 3,5 weeks now. I know I'm already caught, once with a radar and another time with a laser gun (and maybe te ones I didn't notice), but it usually takes six week to receive the ticket.
I bought my 8 just at the wrong time, our government needs more money (as do all) and they've increased the amount of speedcontrols as well as the penances on speeding to get some extra.
