You vehicle code you can stop up to 1 car length before a stop sign and not get a ticket.

A good school or teacher will tell you to stop a few feet before the stop sign.

You have a better view and it is safer.

1. The fine amount will vary depending on how many pts you're carrying on your record. It will probably be $200-$300

2. You can plead not guilty and you will win if the cop doesn't show. CHP - especially bike cops - will usually show up

I paid $350 in new york for a guy who *almost* guaranteed to get the ticket dismissed. 20 miles outside of NYC, fairly wealthy area, i was happily surprised at the $350 price.

Find a ticket lawyer who JUST does tickets, and specialized in ONLY your local jurisdiction. The way it works is that the lawyer knows exactly who the county lawyers/judges/clerks/etc are in their home court, what their schedules are, what days/hours they work, what day they get a ******* and are in a good mood, etc. They know exactly how and when to file things to maximize the chance it will get dismissed, overlaid with the fact that all the court people know your lawyer personally because they deal with them frequently, and if it's not an eggregious offense, you stand a very good shot.

I was skeptical at first, but this is the way to handle it. Fines and insurance can be pricey....
