Speed limiter truth time

Ok
I've read on here there is a speed limiter on the RX8, we have a 2007 6spd auto.

I've only been able to hit 120 at the tracks available but we plan on going to bigger and faster now that its boosted. I called the MAN who dynoed the car and he tells me he sees no limiter in the map, has no way to remove it and doubts there is one. The tuner is a pro with accessport pro software "taught MM what he knows"

So lets hear it, be there or be square. Are ya tuners? do ya know or just parroting what ya have heard.

We all need this info for sure before we spend big bucks at tracks that will waste our time and money.

OH, and have a nice day.

Just to be clear, you're saying that the track length limited you from going beyond 120? Or you stopped gaining speed at 120?

I broke 150 one time when I had my 8 on stock software.

The only limiter on the 8 is aerodynamics and gearing. 6th gear tops out at 184 mph with the stock redline. You can do that on a dyno or something similar. A stock rx8 will usually be aerodynamically be limited (on a flat surface) around 155 mph.

yessir, I was limited before I went off the track into trees and heaven or hell awaited me. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeee

As reported on this forum the 8 has a 125mph speed limit, refer back to my 1st post sir. As Strong as that po lil auto was pulling I guessed it could go well beyond 125mph. I do understand weak motors, head winds, bad streets, all and more contribute. My question stands.

I remember now, MM said he could set your top speed to 300mph so it would not interfere with any mods.

Another post to draw money so he could go to the track?

Not sure about the auto but my 8 does not have a speed limiter (that I could reach anyway). There are a few good places to test this theory in Texas.

I haven't checked this carefully, but I believe that all RX-8s have a speed limiter. Which limiter the ECU uses depends on the "as built" data, but I don't know how it is configured for every car.

They are:
180 km/h ~ 112 mph
211 km/h ~ 131 mph
241 km/h ~ 150 mph
500 km/h ~ 311 mph

It looks like it works by retarding the throttle angle, and there is a 5 km/h hysteresis.

If it isn't obvious, the last option means this limiter will never be called without JATO rockets.

I've read the AT cars are limited to 125MPH but then Phils8 said he has been above 150MPH in his 4port AT.

Well, that was great display of my reading skills. I missed the auto part. I do recall having heard about a limiter for the autos, but I can't say for certain.

Actually, you're right. I hadn't looked at an auto rom. So I checked SW-N3M6EM000, which is, I think, the original rom for the '06 auto.

There are still 4 different values:

180, 200, 200, 200 km/h

There is no 500km/h option, so I suspect that all series I autos are limited to ~125mph.

I still haven't looked at a series II auto rom.

Thanks all for your input. Steve Kan dyno tuned my car and I asked him. he does not see it and can not find it with accessport pro tune software. Maybe I'll haffta drive real slow like it was a MT.

series 1 AT cars have aspeed limiter set at 125mph. US MT cars have no limiter set (that the car can hit) Other markets do have some limiter set for MT models but I dont recall which has what etc. or whether the 5speed MT cars have a different set than 6mt cars

That is true. Check out Phils8 public profile and you'll see what hes got under the hood.

I've got a 07 6spd auto that should be just like yours, and it kicks out at 125 mph.

Don't you okies know how to top out a car?

I sent you some pm's with light tire ideas that I guess got lost.

Do some searches to confirm but I do not think the AP can remove it.

Now if someone will tell me how and where I can get my tuner to do this. He uses protuner so I am no longer able to look for myself.
