I wasn't aware the Japanese model had a 6 speed MT with different ratios, just the optional 5 speed MT?

Ahh well... good enough for me, those numbers are well within the margin of error if there is such a transmission out there.

To recap the evidence I have put forward in this thread

1/Video showing my speedo at 163km/hr in 3rd gear at approx 8900 rpm

2/Video of Gtech run showing 100mph at the end of the run - and you can clearly hear me change from 3rd into 4th at that point.

3/Anecdotal evidence from three other posters that their JDM RX8's go over 100mph in 3rd

4/A specification chart that shows JDM RX8s with a third gear ratio of 1.539 vs the US spec RX8 with 1.645

5/All the calcs shown above that further confirm what I've been saying all along .

And what has MM put forward ?

Red hearings about tyre size and actual speed .....

well to me it is pretty clear what I've been trying to argue and what this whole thread is about :
That my JDM rx8 (and indeed all JDM 8s) has a different 3rd gear ratio to US spec rx8s . Simple enough

Read the thread title and my first post if you don't believe me .

You don't need to get defensive. I'm agreeing with you. I'm just saying this argument is leading no where because you guys aren't exactly arguing the same thing.

You win.
Your RX-8 is special.
There is no other '04 in the world as special as yours.
It has magical powers and the guys at Hiroshima knew that you needed that added legroom in 3rd gear.

At least Falken had the light come on and tell him he was missing some point somewhere, even if he didn't grasp it.

You just refused to even accept the idea that you were asking the wrong question, let alone coming to the wrong conclusion.

You can have that be your 5% - it buys me a pass for when I really do get something wrong...

Idiot

Brettus,

Congratulations on looking like a whiner. If you think you've won an internet argument, I will buy you a virtual crown so you can bask in your amazingness.

Meanwhile I guess you will keep on bumping this thread with no other purpose than to continue to point out that you and MM disagree on something. Good job. You are awesome.

My point is that it doesn't matter if he won or not. It's in bad form to just bump this thread repeatedly with comments like "idiot"

Any perceived gain he might have had is lost to the viewer, he just looks childish now.

Big ******* deal if his ratios are different anyway.

I think we should give him some props for at least standing up to what he believed, and coming out on top at that

good job bret

and dude, it wasn't a big deal until he got 500000000000 flame post on him for saying that it is different

ps: for normal people who doesn't give a flying F about "old timers" on this board, you were wrong = you were wrong, let him bask in his glory, seriously, just let him be, this thread will sooner or later die anyways........

seriously - that is the first childish taunt from me on the whole thread - MM has been full of that stuff the whole thread , but I dont see you calling him childish .

But you are right - I should not have said that . MM drove me to it so I guess he did "win"

That's because he's a dedicated MM throne-sniffer. You should have seen how he was gushing about Jeff crawling around his engine bay back in January... it was like watching a teenage girl gush over Justin Timberlake. Like ZOMG!

I read the whole thread, and I knew what you were getting at the entire time. I think MM knew it too, but was just too stubborn to admit he's wrong and was hoping he could scare you away with his superior wikipedia regurgitating abilities. For a second there though, I was starting to believe that the guy somehow gained some supernatural knowledge because he had taken apart several JDM transmissions. That he somehow KNEW that yours can't be any different, because he knows about EVERY single JDM transmission ever built for the RX-8, down to the serial numbers....

JDM omnipotence...

Thread wasn't about third gear, clearly.

Do you really want to start this up again?
