This is the most fun car ever, but there are a few things I would like on my wish list . 1. Driver preset adjustments. The guys a the dealer always mess up my seat. And when the wife drives the seat gets changed. 2. How about auto up windows, when driving fast i like to keep both hands on wheel. 3. Convertable :D Any body else have any wishes !!!!!!

I just can't wait for the Mazdaspeed part and all after market parts to start hit the market. It's one hell of a rid already and I just want to make it better.

I wish those little pop out windows in the back were automatic...like on my expedition I can vent my side windows when it's hot....there is a control for each side....that'd be one of those little things that would be way cool.

What I would wish for might be a little more on the technical side:an oil metering system that does not use oil from the cankcase or sump (for lack of a better term) but from a separate tank, carrying a sensor that would indicate low level. These cars use more oil than most people realise.I think it's unacceptable in this day and age for folks to have to be constantly check any levels. It isn't the case with piston engine motors and it shoudn't be that way here. The other suggestion I would make is some sort of fuel delay when cranking (1 or 2 seconds) helping to reduce the opportunity of flooding.I hope people acknowledge now that the flooding thing is not a myth; it's most common though with weak batteries,
I hope that was in the spirit of the thread.

Ah! The folding rear seats is a pet peeve of mine. I do understand the cross bracing there though & I guess I prefer the cross bracing. Oh well.

Auto rear windows does make sense. You definitely can't open them from the front seats.

More power from the factory. Yeah. Good one. It oughta be. They made the car, then nothing. Third party stuff risks warranty problems. It doesn't add-up.

An oil metering reservoir is the best yet! Could that be retrofitted, or is that too internal to the engine? It's late at night & my mind won't go there any more. Great idea though! Man, you're right! Why not? That would leave the oil in the sump unchanging in its level. Why compromise on the lubricant level for the engine internals? The reservoir could be like a whole gallon, good from the top, all the way to the bottom, with a sensor at the bottom, of course. Great idea. MAZDA?!?! DUH?!?!

What is this fuel delay thingy? I don't understand - please elaborate...

I agree with everything said so far, especially more power. I vote for a supercharger, and an output of 300 WHP. :D Also, adjustable pedals, and lighted sunroof controls.

Cool

Hmm.. lets see what i'd wish to be added:

I would like the alarm to be integrated with the key and the key being programmable like bmw does. Maintenance reminder (like it would tell you when to go have your car serviced, based on the way one drives the car). Doors to lock automatically when the wheels start moving after a certain speed and doors unlock when I pull the key out of the ignition. Up/down one touch window for all windows and sunroof. Mp3 title to scroll automatically. Adjustable seatbelt. Trunk open button somewhere near the trunk. Lumbar support to be 4 way. Make the oil dipstick easier to access (since it needs to often be checked). Compass on the rear view mirror.

Sorry for the long list . Keeping my fingers crossed. Guess I just got used to my other car that i traded in having these features..that I miss.

Analog speedometer
Analog oil pressure gauge

Wishing big -- totally HUD instrumentation.

I also like the idea of a separate oil reservoir. This way absolutely clean oil could be used and furthermore it could be spec'd perfectly as needed for its function. No more synth vs. dino debates. Just give me a part number for "Mazda rotary-engine oil injector lubricant".

Yep, that's the point.Apart from not playing with the level required for bearings and internal rotor cooling the synthetic debate definitely no longer would be an issue.Mazda could even sell their own specific metering lube (and offset the costs of the apparatus. As for the fuel delay, in the old vehicles (espcially 86-91) I tend to modify the fuel pump by removing it's check valve. In so doing the fuel returns to the tank when the car is switched off vs being at the rail under pressure.

Provide better lighting for the switches on the doors and change the icon for the window switches from the three piddley dots to an icon of a window. My wife continuosly search for the window button and she has actually used the door lock button to no avail!

Extend the lenght of the dipstick so it is a bit easier to locate and reinsert.

Provide a telescopic capability to the steering wheel.

Automatic windshield wipers!

Although I love the shape of the brake handle maybe it could be redesigned to fit flush with the console. I always see it out the corner of my eye and think that the dang thing is still engaged!

Move the cup holders a little more forward to make access easier.

Get rid of the holes/dots in the sun visors and make them solid.

Love my car. This is not a complaint list - just ideas for next year to make a great car even better

Convertible (option)
Turbo (option)

Oil reservoir with oil level indicator on dash
Oil dipstick design that does not require removing plastic cover for access.

Charging system dash indicator (volts and amps)

Get rid of nag screen on NAV (maybe after Nth display)
Display rear view on NAV when backing up

Graphic Equalizer on radio
Sat radio option

Compass on mirror

Larger fuel tank & improved gas mileage

Fold down rear seats
Stronger air conditioning for those of us in HOT climates

Auto headlight shut off

Don't remove anything from the Little Things Thread next year!

Nope. It's really digital. It just looks analog. I know this is hard to believe, but it's true. Search for some old threads on it if you wish...

Btw, some more great ideas...I'm impressed with the lists so far!

???

Your speedo is digital, your oil pressure is analog!

As defined by my Electrical Engineers desk reference:

An analog indicator is defined as any mechanical indicator that contains a needle that swings between two fixed points (also refered to a D'varsonal movement) regardles of the signal recieved.

:D

How about we use the term "discrete" then? The signal is either "on" or "off". OK?

Nevertheless, it is not displaying analog information (actual lb/in^2); it's simply an "idiot light" made to look like an analog gauge. A special boot to the head to whoever spec'd this. Someone from Ford, no doubt.

Yes I agree. I wasn't trying to start an argument here. I was basing my disertation on what he was refering to based on what he had stated not on what he was infering. Sorry for any inconvienence!

I was refering to what he said about an analog "gauge" I did not see anything refering to the signal it was refering to but the actual type of gauge movement itself.

I have seen those threads. I interperted them to mean that there is no actual pressure measuriment/reading. The sending unit is designed to turn on when a specific pressure is reached and will switch off when the pressure in the transducer falls below a specific PSI. I was wondering that maybe a simple change of the sending unit would do the trick!

Nope, not Ford, it was someone from Mazda's Customer Service Department, combined with their Accounting Department - back in 1995! The first Miatas had a proper analog oil pressure gauge. Mazda got tired of the endless phone calls from owners who had never seen a real OPG before, and who never bothered to read the manual. "My oil pressure is moving around all the time!" "My oil pressure is low at idle" "My oil pressure is real high when I rev the engine when it's cold". All perfectly normal, yet they had way too many calls from people asking silly questions. Also, the on/off type of sender and gauge head are significantly cheaper than the proper analog equivalents, so between those two factors Mazda switched the Miata from the real gauge to the idiot (on/off) gauge for the 1995 model year. The RX-8 just continues that usage (as the Miata still does too).

Regards,
Gordon
