Something I did not realize until now...

I've owned my 8 for over six months now. There were two things that I did not notice for a while. I knew that the Rx8s did not come with a spare tire, what I did not know was that there was a hand jack/tow hooks in the "secret compartment" in the trunk. I learned of this about six months after I've owned the car. Another thing that i learned this morning was that the side view mirrors were heated! Wonder what I'll find out in the next six months...

they also fold in. That took me a while to find out, mostly because they are hard to fold in and I thought I was breaking them.

I've known the fold in. Most Japanese vehicles I've encountered folded in.

I've had mine a little over a month now and I know I don't know everything about it yet.
Like the "secret compartment" or that it even had a jack.

One thing I know for sure however is that I like this car.

heh - have you found the secret handle on the inside of the trunk that you're supposed to use to close it?

Ok well it seems the Japs and Europeans have had it for a while, but not the US (not surprising).. because all vehicles in Europe have fold-in mirrors.. it's kinda required over there what with the super limited parking spots and tight alleys..

Not all Japanese cars since 1990 have folding mirrors. My wife's '94 Camry does not. I always thought it was because the equivalent Lexus did, and they were trying to differentiate them enough to sell the more expensive car.

Not all RX-8s have heated mirrors. Base and Sport don't. It's either Touring or GT and better that do. Might vary by year, too.

Tsx - this might be in the category of spoiler, but the "The little things" thread is full of discoveries of cool stuff not noticed immediately.

If you have the heated mirrors (Generally just the GT trim/package), then they come on with your defrost button that you think is only for your rear windows.

I had a friend in my 8 a couple weeks ago (he also has one), and he was going on and on about "my wife's Geo Prism has these + and - buttons on the cruise control so you can change speed without having to upset the cruise control, I wish we had that"... I let him dig himself pretty deep before showing him that we have it too.

He was also unaware of our 2nd 12v outlet under the center armrest.

I love our integrated antenna. That one took me ~3 months to realize where it was.

The only 'little thing' that bothers me is the lack of attention to the placement of the auto-dimming mirror sensor...when you have a stock spoiler. Flipping the mirror upside down fixes this, but I was reminded again when an instructor at the last Auto-X event pointed at my upside down mirror and said: "Did they build it wrong?"

sigh.

I thought that the fold-in mirrors were for shipping. They could save a couple of inches and get more cars on a boat.

It is the first sticky on the General section, RX-8 Discussion
https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/little-things-67045/

And the handle is just to the right of the center of the trunk, on the inside. Not hard to find.

The only thing I am still looking for is torque. Can't seem to find mine.

^"found"???

I SHOWED YOU THAT DAMN IT!!

on one of my drunken nights out by the bar i needed a place to sit that wasn't inside my car but close enough to it where i wouldn't have to stray off some where creating distance between me and my car - risking the chance of possibly falling on my face because i was **** drunk.
