Some noob questions

Hey all, looking to trade my 6 in for a RX-8. Couple questions.
1- Overall, is it a good purchase for the long run? (100,000 miles) I've owned several cars, and while I've loved them all, I know which ones were stupid purchases.

2- Is the insurance pretty high for these? I haven't called my agent to find out yet.

3- Snow-state drivers- I need this car to run year round. With a decent set of snow tires, will I be okay?

Thanks everyone.

Matt

im not sure if an 8s right for you but.....insurance....a just a little more pricey than your 6....rx8 can last over 100,000miles but must me maintained properly, try searching for maintenance in old thread, snow yeah you can drive the 8 in the snow but most people recommend a set of snow tires for the winter....like i said try the search link at the top of the page.....try to read all the stickies on info you find...stickies are very helpful....good luck with your findings...oh yeah and dont buy an auto...and if you can try to stay away from 04's, while not all are bad apples but the 04's tend to have the most problems .....

Insurance is not too high.

If you have snow tires, Yes, you will be okay.

Search around and you will find everything you need to know.
There is a search button located on the top of the page.

The car will definitely get to 100K miles. Resale will not be so great, so keep that in mind. I drove my 8 in the snow, and it wasn't a problem. Just make sure you get a good set of winter or all season tires for the job.

It will suck gas big time. That's what sport cars are for.

Winter is for the Mazda 6. Keep it and be happy.

1. If you take care of it, change the oil every 3k, check the oil every other fill up, drive her hard every now and then you should have no problems getting to 100k.

2. The insurance isn't bad on these. I'm with nationwide and they consider it a 4 door because of the "2+2" doors.

3. You should be fine with a good set of tires for the winter season.

The car is a joy to drive and is fairly practical for daily driving, spare the gas mileage. I usually average around 19-20 mpg in the winter (have yet to drive it in warm weather) which isn't bad for me since I drive 5 minutes to work. If you haven't test driven one yet, I'd advise you to do it.

1. Follow general maintenance procedures and you will have no problem getting 100k.

2. Insurance on these aren't high at all and I would think average. My '05 RX-8 wasn't much higher than my '95 Eclipse was.

3. Yes. it can be driven all year around (at least here) especially with snow tires. I run all year long with all-season tires and if I have plenty of clearance then I don't have a problem.
