Some a hole has ripped my 3rd brake light logo idea off on e bay

OK, I saw this the other day and confirmed it again today. This person has taken my 3rd light idea and has put it on e bay for sale. He changed the design just a tiny bit but it is still my method because he put it behind the lens. He is charging $10 plus $2 shipping and handling which the S & H is my biggest beef about e bay cause that is the biggest rip off of the entire e bay system.

Here is his e bay item listing:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33716

Here is my original thread on doing this: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=21092

Well, I had to put my own item on e bay but I will not give the URL because I am not advertising on this post but let's say I have considerably undercut his product. Rip off a hole!

How much are you charging? I would rather pay the originator of the product, you know what I mean. Plus I don't like ebay.

if you want, I got a fake Ebay account, I can just bid up to 200 dollars, make him suffer the ebay fee for listing... and everytime he wants to put something on sale, I can keep on jacking the price up.

Oh wait,... is that illegal? Not if you don't get caught!

Thanks everybody for the complements. I wish I knew who this guy was but there isn't much I can do but cut his price as I did with a lesser expensive superior item.

Yes, but the method is different, His blocks out the RX-8 via his stickers and mine lets the RX-8 logo light through. I am aware of his as he is of mine and we have no problem with each other's. PoLaK's is a very nice looking product. I commend him on his quality.

This one is exact except for two lines on each side of the RX-8. Also, he lists the exact same tools as I showed and explained in the DIY mod down to the 10mm socket. This guy is a Forum member, for sure. I would bet on it.

I know it's frustrating, but unless you patent something, anyone can copy your idea. That is capitalism, free enterprise.

You are approaching it as you should, by claiming superior quality and undercutting the price. But don't whine about it.

And no, it's not me.

Also, not to be mean, but it's not a terribly complex idea either. The guy could have come up with it on his own. I know I dont understand how people order vynil stickers rather than make their own to begin with.

Unfortunately Speed-er is right there is nothing much that can be done, unless you go into copyright and licensing, and technically that could be tricky, since you are using an official RX-8 logo by mazda. Everyone on ebay wants to make a buc and rip ideas and people off - so just make yours that little bit special!

Great mod , next time you should consider offering this sort of mod to mazda and get it as an accessory part for all future RX8 as standard .

We all know you are the original inventor , so dont worry be happy.

cheers

Have you considered using your mod as a communicative type tool for drivers behind you .

Differing messages could be programmed to conversace with drivers behind you .

I would have , some funny ones rude ones , back off , *** hole , sexy , etc ,

just my 2 cents worth .

cheers

No, but, I always wanted some type of sign that would have scrolling text across it that could tell drivers exactly what I think of them...however, I would be in court so much I wouldn't even have time to drive. LOL Can you say ROAD RAGE? Nothing I would ever act on, though. I do have the best single digit message and there have been times where I could drive it with my knees as I signaled out the window. :D

Actually, this I could do if anyone would like something custom. One thought is "Get off my ***!". That's about as clean as I could thnk of right now.

Unfortunately, it takes about 20 - 25 minutes to put on or change.

Actually they did/do have something like that to convey messages (and I am not talking about your middle finger).

Used to be a hand-held sign that had different flip-messages on it. Saw one in use one time when I was 'flipped' "Nice Car."

Made my day...

Yeah, I know about getting even. Hardest thing I ever did was moon while driving....LOL

The computerized text could be done. It would have to be a custom job with hyper bright LEDs but it could be done. It's just a bit beyond my ability, though. :D

A similar situation came up on the rx7 forum...J spec tail lights come through round indentions in the plastic.

American lights are more or less square.

They both use the same housing...it's just a mask on the inside of the lense....But j spec tail lights are very very pricey. $475 i think

Any way a guy figured out how to take the american lights apart and actually spray on a liner to make round lights. Then another guy made a nylon mask and still another made a carbon fiber inlay..needless to say the first dude got a little pissed.

So he ended up telling people to send him their lenses and he would do the conversions for them for $65. He actually went out and bought a few american lenses to have them ready made for exchanges. HE was first to market and first to offer the service...it took a lot of work on his part but eventually he became the "go to" person for the mod. Sure others tried to copy...but rotary owners are a loyal bunch...so in the end he did the best.

So, in the interest of free market capitalism...you now have a fully developped marketing plan for your product. Make the different covers and sell them to other forum members!

In fact, make a few and come to the Rotary Revolution and I will let you sell them at my show! You can tell people they can pick them up there.

Here is some good reading and a few ideas.

3rd gen rx7s have frosted front turn signals. Another guy actually took the entire front turn signal lense assembly to a light designer and had him make a clear plastic lense for it.

He now sells the lights through various on line stores for $150 a pop.
